Default Budget home recording

Hey,

I'm thinking of buying a mixer and some microphones to do some home recording. The idea is that my band would then be able to record our song ideas, and also will be able to work on them while not practicing.

I was thinking of buying 2 overheads and a bass drum mic with a small 6 channel mixer with a usb-interface. I've got the software but not the hardware. I would like to hear from you guys what is the best budget recording setup and which best hardware to use for that recording setup.

Thank you in advance.

If it's for recording purposes, I'd rather get an interface, USB mixers usually send a stereo mix to your PC, and not each channel separately. With something like THIS, you will get all six channels into your software.
As for mics, I've seen great results from the 3 SM57 configuration, plus you'll get mics for keeps (They are quite versatile, too, so they'll let you record all the instruments nicely). THIS was recorded with just those three mics.
