Default Bass pad diy quickie

Alright guys I've got my new pearl eliminators coming in this week and I'm working on making a double bass practice pad.

The design for the pad is all set. I am just looking for a few suggestions for materials for beater pad. I'm wanting something decent rebound but as quiet as possible. That's the most important aspect: being quiet.

Thanks for any suggestions

I actually used a mousepad for sometime to practice rudiments, however I really don't feel a mousepad is going withstand mounting AND taking such a beating from the double bass.

I do. I cut one in half, glued the two peices on top of one another and glued them to an upright....it worked well until I ended up getting one of these: http://drums-percussion.musiciansfri...Pad?sku=446025 ....a much better feel.

But as a DIY, the mouse pad will work.

I'd try a 2" thick piece of nice foam.
Foam is cheap, and I have a piece that'd be great for use with a pedal. Looking at it right now, and it'd work for what you want and be super quiet (my 3 yr old beats on it with drumsticks--can't hear it!).

It's a yellow-ish Tan color if you have any sort of foam outlet in your area. It's called Polyfoam. It's stuff you'd use as a cushion for a seat or bench.
