Didn't see anything on here about it. Sorry if it's already posted. http://www.americanconsumernews.com/...-pro-mark.html

Yeah, wow.... Two major mergers in one day??

Hard to believe.

But this makes sense.

Evans drum heads really turned around once D'Addario took them over.

D'Addario already makes stings, picks, guitar and mic cable, and drum heads, so adding sticks really completes them in being a major accessory manufacture.

Never been called a horse before :-P

Just to clarify, the purchase of Pro-Mark is not a merger, it is an outright purchase. Though I can't be 100%, I believe the same is true for Zildjian and Vic Firth.

"Pack" horse, my friend.....pack horse. You carry us all!! :-)

In fact I was thinking just recently, about starting a thread questioning why more drum companies wouldn't follow your lead and have a qualified representative here on DW to answer all questions......"Horse" or not, you are a pioneer among drum companies and I value your input. Where else can you hear 'straight from Evans' mouth"??

I just wish Remo, Ludwig and a hell of a lot of others had the same foresight! :-)

Fender bought them a few years back.

Kaman music technically no longer exists. It's now called KMS, but it's just a division of Fender.

D'Addario (which are the only guitar strings I use even though I've been offered free strings from others) has been going public recently with their fight against counterfeit strings. One of the few American cottage industries, they are holding the line for jobs and quality product. But these counterfeit strings are popping up all over the world. I hope Evans and Promark aren't (or don't) suffer the same fate.

It's certainly something unique to us; we are very serious about customer service and communicating with musicians. It's all about having an ear to the ground and connecting with people. Drummers are a community afterall.

This is defintely something we (D'Addario) are taking seriously. I wouldn't worry about counterfeit drumheads just yet. You can't really make non-crimped heads on the cheap and without all of the machinery we have. Due to our (Evans) LEAN manufacturing practices, we'd likely be making the heads for less than any counterfeiter could manage.

Just to lodge a compliment, slightly off topic, I love the Evans heads on the new Gretsch Catalina.

My favorite heads and my favorite sticks? big win in my book. D'addario is the best in quality control I have never gotten a bad head/strings/snarewires from evans.

I hope pro-mark stays in houston though.

I'm not aware of any Evans issues, but D'Addario strings had an issue a couple years back where the ball end on .010 strings would come loose. I used to watch Chris Cain (who I don't think has an endorsment but should) start retuning his high E as it would start going flat and know exactly what was going on. About a song and a half (or one long song) and it would let loose. I know one local journeyman guy slogging it out 5-6 nights a week who wrote the factory and got a halfhearted admission that it was a known problem. They offered to replace any bad ones he sent back. His thing was to not use the one that came in the set, but to buy singles just for the .010. I had talked to the guitar tech for a D'Addario endorser I know and he showed me his technique for stretching/breaking in new strings. Once I started doing that, I stopped having problems and passed the technique on to all my friends. Haven't heard of the issue recently so they must have solved it. The things only last me about 3 gigs anyway so they don't stay on that long. Other strings didn't last that long, which is why I stuck by D'Addario.

I also use Zildjian As and Evans heads.

I'm thinking that Remo and Regal Tip will be the next merger as Regal Tip is the Canadian distributor for Remo.

hahaha....

That would be funny. And really, not totally out of the question. It was Armand and Robert who had issues with each other. Who knows if the family feud will continue into future generations.

I often winder if the younger members of the family get together on holidays. Just because Armand and Robert didn't get along doesn't necessarily mean all the various other cousins, siblings, etc, don't get along.

Tell that to the Hatfields and the McCoys.
