Default Drum Shoes

Hey everyone, this is my first thread here on the forum. I've been playing drums for 2 years this month. I play groove/speed/death metal and normally I play in my socks to achieve a nice kick speed and consistency. I was however looking into getting drummer shoes. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with them. Specifically those who normally play barefoot or in socks or someone who has switched from barefoot to the drummer shoes.

A recent thread here on DW opened up this particular can of worms, but no, the shoes you wear have much less to do with improving your playing as your brain cells and the feet they drive. Just find shoes that are comfortable and allow you the range of motion you prefer.

I spent most of last year playing drums with actual Army-issue combat boots with the lug soles. No issues. Check out this video of Gene Hoglan. Those look like some pretty hefty boots to me, yet he's pretty widely recognized as a genre master.

I always feel slower barefoot or in socks. I guess i am just different. When i pratice if i am barefoot i will eventually stop and go put on shoes. I have actually started keeping slip on shoes behind my kit.

Haha yeah i do that too. A lot of times when i go to practice i have to stop and go put on some shoes, so i keep my old pair where the soles are practically worn out always in near reach of my drums.

But yeah, deciding what to wear when you play is totally a preference thing. You just gotta explore your options and see what feels right.
