Default Best head to get my piccolo to give me a pop?

I've got a steel black panther 13x3.5 piccolo with the stock coated ambassador head but it's not giving me the sound i want. It's giving out a cracking sound instead of a popping sound i've messed around with the tuning to no avail. Can anyone recommend me a good head for it? Cheers!

if you want more pop , try a 2ply head like remo emperor or if you want a dry pop the powerstroke4.

Evans Genera Dry. Yeah, I was trying to remember the proper name. Thanks :)

They have the damping ring inside so it gives almost a gated pop sound.

ok nice one i'll check that out for sure! Also i've been messing around with it and i've taped the snare on to the snare side head and i'm really liking the results. I tried tightening the snare but i wouldn't go tight enough. Is there anything i can buy that would do the same thing cos the tape can come easily unstuck! Cheers for the help!

I just bought an Evans ST Dry. Two 7.5 mm layers. Durable and tight and a high crack.
Til this head I was using the Genera HD dry

I thought a pop is how you strike the snare drum, not the head. When I want my drum to pop I do a rimshot with my stick tip dead center. Sorry for being difficult.

Cracking and Popping are fairly nebulous sounds. Any recorded examples of what you're searching for? To me it sounds like cracking could be the same head combo but it's a rimshot and popping could be the sound without the rim....

From Wiki:
Nebulous:
hazy, vague, indistinct, or confused.

Words to describe sounds is always difficult. I was never sure what people mean by crack. To me crack is a tight tuned drum without a rimshot, pop is a dead center rimshot, but I don't know if this is what everyone else thinks.

Definition of crack anyone? (yea I know this is ripe for humor)

I'm using a Remo coated controlled sound on my 14x3.5 Pearl free floating. It sounds like Questloves snare on The Roots Come Alive Album. So happy with it.

I'd get those stock heads off,and put whatever heads you like on your main snare on the pic. Stock heads sound nasty ,feel nasty, and are just a source of frustration IMO. The other thing is tuning. I found that my pearl 3x13 maple shell sounded best when tuned just a bit lower than where I would think I'd have to tune it to get that "pop" sound.
