Default My first high end Drum Set

After lusting at the mass amounts of drum porn on this forum, I've finally got my own high end kit and I'm happy to share with you some pictures. Forgive me, the lighting in my room is poor.

Meet my Yamaha Birch Custom Absolute in what I'm guessing is a dark vintage natural finish. I believe someone has this same configuration and sizes except mine seems to be a rich beautiful dark brown.

Sizes are standard bebop: 12x8 rack, 14x14 floor, and 18x14 bass.

Snare: 14x5.5 Maple Custom Absolute Nouveau (Blends in pretty well with the rest of the kit yes?)

Ride: 22" K Dark Medium Ride Cymbal

Crash: 18" K Dark Thin Crash Cymbal

Hi Hats: 14" K Custom Dark Hi Hats

Heads: Coated Ambassador on top and bottom of rack. Coated ambassador top and clear ambassador bottom on the floor. Coated Powerstroke 3 on the batter and Fiberskyn Ambassador reso on the bass drum.

Thank you for the kind words. It feels good to sleep easy knowing you're set for years to come and to not think about upgrading all the time. Does anyone notice what's behind my kit?

Swift, so is it just the lighting in your place ?? The snare is definitely the normal Yamaha Vintage hue..., then the other components look darker in most of the pics, but then again... the first pic looks like the snare is the darker hue just like the other components, ... so I think it was just your lighting.

All of them are the exact same hue or "tint" .. correct ?? Or no ??

I've seen that color before, that's a beautiful orange hue - Yamaha does well to make them all appear the same. The lighting might be funky - it's a great color. If I recall, it's not sealed glossy either, you can feel the grain, yes? It gave me the impression that the drums will breathe well! Good choice and congrats!

I bought the snare separately a long time ago. The snare is a MAPLE custom absolute which is why it is the normal hue. The Birch Custom, which is the rest of the kit, is in a darker brown. The pics don't do justice, but trust me it's not the regular vintage natural hue. And the lighting in the room is poor. I took pics because it was requested of me.

So it is'nt the lighting. I am really seeing that darker brown color. That's interesting....

Here is the normal Birch Vintage finish. I think it is lighter than your birch components.

It's very interesting. It's what attracted me to it. I did want to add on a 20" bass for more versatility, but the hue wouldn't really blend in with my toms. But I guess I can experiment and try to make the most out of the 18" for rock, funk, r&b and hip hop stuff.

I also plan on probably getting 16" crashes as hi hats soon. I want that Steve Jordan esque vibe going on haha.

That's an awesome kit. It's pretty much my dream kit - it's just about all I need. But, I'd have my sights on a 20" kick also.

I tried out some 16" crash combos for hi hats the other day and really dig the K Con Crash over a Regular A Medium Crash for a bottom. So I'll be replacing my K Custom Dark hats and posting pic updates. I'll post a video as soon as everyone can get an idea of what they sound like. Right now I have to make do on the e-kit. Oh the joys of living in an apartment.

The finish of the drums in that pic is in "Vintage Natural" finish.

His is what yamaha call the "Vintage Brown" finish. =)
