Default Music that heals the soul

Just looking for a thread with a collection of songs for when you're feeling bad.

Not necessarily the most upbeat music, but certainly some of the most beautiful.

If it was a vote, which it isn't, mine goes to Anathema - One Last Goodbye. One of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written in my most humble opinion.

Not quite in the way I intended. I can't put on Braindrill and feel good about myself when I'm down. I can't listen to Meshuggah to inspire some sort of emotional response as cool as the drums are, it doesn't have that kind of impact.

Call me crazy but this one always takes me away to a good place: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZjjsrn9FY4

Meaningless of course, but that's the point :)

I can also watch Pink Floyd at Pompeii or Keith Jarret's Love Ship DVD any time (Keith and Jack Dejonette going off works for me).

But it does for some people, it might empower them, you know? I think that's the point. When people listen to music, certain chemicals and neurotransmitters go off in the brain and stimulate the pleasure centres. It doesn't have to be soothing and emotive music. Sometimes I put on something heavy and it has the same emotional impact than if I had put on something soft and ethereal.

Ambience is my soul soother, I love metal but man ambient music to me is just beautiful. Have a listen to this by Richard Bone not for everyone I know but this just relaxes me so well.

Speaking of Soul how about some New School Blue Eyed Soul!?!?
This song is from The Gregory Brothers, the same people who bring you Auto-tune the News series on You Tube.. I just found some of their serious music recently and its great!
All around good sound and great song-writing & instrumentation.
It's really cool to hear people from my generation playing music that is not rock or hip-hop. This song takes me somewhere good :)

I'm kind of the same but for me it's post rock. I listen to a lot of post rock which probably has more in common with ambiance then rock music

When it comes to jazz, Ken once recommended Alabama to me ... it soon became my fave jazz tune (Ken, if you're reading this, thanks!).

You Canīt Always Get What You Want - by The Rolling Stones, that gospel chorus is amazing, it heals the soul and washes the sin away.

I really like The Islander - Nightwish. If you haven't heard it, I really recommend it.

It's a nice song... I used to really like nightwish (pre-once). Some of their earlier stuff like wishmaster is very romantic for lack of a better word.

I haven't really listened to them that much, but that particular song I really enjoy. I'm not familiar at all with the older stuff, I'll check it out, haha.
