Default Vex or PDP 502 double pedal?

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the Vex, the PDP 502, or both and if so, which one do you recommend? Any recommendations for other double pedals within the same price would be appreciated as well (: Thanks !

Hey 7

I don't know much about the Vex but i personally love the PDP 502. Solid build, fast, smooth. Not a high end replacement by any means but a great pedal.

Thanks! anything you do not like about the PDP? like what makes it not a high end replacement? I guess the fact that it isn't as adjustable could be one reason?

Out of the two you mentioned, I would probably go with the PDP because I trust the DW company that stands behind it. However, you may also want to look at the Taye Drive pedal. Taye makes quality products and this pedal is close in price to the others.

I'm guessing you are asking us to recommend between these two pedals because of your budget. I would tell you that between these, go with the PDP, but also check on Craigslist or eBay to see if you can't buy a higher-quality used pedal from the get-go for the same amount of money. I have never bought a double pedal new, the prices are insane.

I have a VEX that I paid 99.00 for including shipping and in my opinion it is worth that and maybe a little more. If I'm not mistaken it can be used as two single pedal, the PDP, I don't think can. It has base plates under both pedals, I don't thing the PDP does. It has three springs on it so you can more easily adjust the slave to match the master pedal. All in all it's not bad for a small budget. The warranty is the same for both pedals so dont Let the DW name fool you into a sense of false reality.

The PDP can be used as two singles I believe, and it has a base plate.

Hi OpenHouse.

I've used the Vex double pedal in the past. I think they are worth the $99, but in the beginning I had some problems with them. But after determining what the issue was, they were pretty good! Vex's support is virtually non-existent, so for the benefit of those who have these pedals, or if you're considering them, I created some videos detailing some configuration and tweaking techniques:

Instructional Video - Vex Pro Touring Double Bass Pedal - Round Two

If support and name brand is an issue for you, then you may want to go with a brand like PDP (like, for example, the PDP DW402). But the Vex pedal has more configurable features then the DW402, so you can pick which way you want to go. In any case, the videos should help.

Good luck!
