Default Which Drumkit?

Hello people! Kinda new to this place but i do browse here a lot.

Sorry if this is yet another repeat but i searched and i couldnt find any thread which answered my question properly.

Ive played for around a year and its time to get rid of the old stagg haha, I have a budget of $1000 (USD) Bucks and i have been looking at some of the drumkits.

Was wanting some people opinions on either the:

Gretsch Catalina (Maple or birch?!?)
Tama Superstar SK Hyper-Drive 5-Piece Drum Set
Pearl Vision

Or anything else you can recommend (With hardware if possible :D)

I love punk (Ramones) If it helps with sound (Wood) :P

Cheers!

if you like punk , you'll find the a four or five piece (1 up and 1/2down) I think that the best sizes for that style and many others are: 12" 14" 16" 22or24" and 14 snare.
sizes are more important than wood, any good wood could work for almost any style, so focus in getting a good kit (with good wood) in the sizes that you want.

the kits that you mention , are all good kits , some may have some features better than other but if you want to get the most of your money, get used gear, I'm not talking about beat-up drums , you'll find drums in mint condition at half of their price.

OMG pls pls pls get the Pearl Vision. I was always a Tama/Gretsch person but after playing their Masters/Vision series, I think I'm more of a Pearl type of guy now. But don't get their hardware cause to me, its like 330$ and its fairly expensive for what you're getting. Nevertheless, the Vision series is very amazing. Sometimes I'll find some minor craftmanships with Gretsch drums, but never Pearl. Also, If you're buying new drums, then you need to go with pearl man. Sometimes I'll see a Catalina Maple selling for like 300$ used but Pearl Visions are always 450$+. The drum shells are hand-made by Pearl, so you don't have to worry about cheap craftsmanship from Taiwan or other countries. They give u lifetime warranty for the shells. Anyways, the one thing I don't like about Pearl Vision series is that there aren't alot of beautiful finishes. If you're buying Pearl vision, just get a 4 piece. I personally don't like their snare, because I've always hated steel snares. The more expensive Sensitone Elite snare is really good imo. But if ur getting a used kit, which most people tend to do to save money, then get Gretsch Catalina Maple man. They're fairly not expensive, which gives u the money to buy good cymbals.

If you have 1000.00 look on eBay for a used Gretsch Renown. There are usually a good bunch of them.

Shop for a used 6 ply Ludwig kit, largest sizes you feel comfortable with. Modular hardware. In black cortex. You can score one for well under $1K. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2cMi5FTXEs

Dumbly i forgot to mention i am from New Zealand, I would need to buy new gear from Guitar center or musicians friend Etc As i have a relative which can air freight it from within the US over here. Free shipping within Us (:

Not keen on buying used gear overseas (Trust issues) and to me its quite a lot of money, We do have a site much like ebay over here, But everything is amazingly overpriced, Like A custom hihats=$500 Beginner kits 750+

Cheers guys
