Default Axis Adjusting

Hi all. I recently purchased a pair of Axis XL-2 double pedals and am in the process of getting them adjusted to my liking. The directions pamphlet that came with the pedals labeled all of the parts and screw locations, but I'm having trouble figuring out exactly how to change the spring tension on the pedals. The diagram clearly showed the spring structure but didn't explain how to change the actual spring tension. Which set of screws controls this? And also, how is the footboard angle adjusted? I'd like to have them both the same height off of the pedal board. Thanks, I hope my questions were clear.
