Default Ludwig Lead Times

Hello everyone,

I'm new to the site, but I have been lurking for a couple of months now, and I'm really impressed with the knowledge and feedback everyone contributes here. With that being said, I had a question about Ludwig's lead times after ordering a custom kit from them.

I ordered a Legacy Classic in Black Glass Glitter a few weeks ago, and Ludwig told me it'd be about 10-12 weeks until I received my kit. I'm sure many of you have ordered from Ludwig before, so my question is: is this lead time standard? What are the chances of the kit arriving sooner? Any information or stories about your ordering process with Ludwig would be great to read. Thanks for your input in advance, and I'm looking forward to contributing to the site and looking forward to getting to know everyone.

Cheers,

AM

I recently received my custom Legacy Classic kit from Ludwig and it took about 9 weeks. I was told the wait would be about 8 weeks, so it wasn't far off the quoted time. My order was in the middle of summer when people usually take vacations, so that may have also contributed.

I ordered Classic Maples in April 2004 and received them in June 2004. It sounds like that's about the standard amount of time to wait. They're worth it.

I'm loving it! I have a sound clip with pictures of the kit in the thread below if you want to hear them.

10 to 12 weeks does not supprise me,Ludwig had some lag time on the new keystone series, delivery one those was june, but had some problems getting them out the door by mid august, that may have affected the legacy waiting period, they also had to make some production adjustments to accommodate the thicker glass glitter wraps, but I have heard they have been pretty good about delivering on schedule with the classic maples and legacies.

Thanks for all the input, guys. I'm really hoping for a shorter lead time, but I'm sure they're worth the wait.

@mike: your kit sounds fantastic! I noticed you have the stock heads on the toms. Sound great. Thanks for sharing.

We just received a Legacy kit (Bonham sizes, Natural finish) that was ordered in Mid-July, so about 10 weeks.

Sorry, not a Ludwig guy here, but I ordered a new DW kit once, and they told me it'd take about 12 weeks before I saw them, so I paid for half of them and lived my life. Three weeks later I get a call saying they're in and I need to pay the rest to pick 'em up. Talk about a panic....

Oh man, talk about good and bad news at once. I pretty much did the same. Payed half up front and owe the rest when they arrive. 10-12 weeks doesn't seem too bad. Hopefully I'll have that much time to get the rest of the coin.

I think when I ordered my kit, DW had just switched over to making their own shells in their factory. Before they were getting them from Keller, I believe. Ludwig hasn't made any major changes to their process, so you should be good with the correct lead time. Have fun when you get them and post a video!

I recently received some silver sparkle legacy classics. 4 pieces. Was quoted 8-12 weeks, got them in 4.5. Dealer had no idea how they were done so quickly.

Sound great!

I'm jealous you got black glitter glass. I specifically asked the dealer and he said that color was not available on legacy classics (even though it's listed on the website). Got a great price, but still....

Glad to hear you didn't have to wait too long! That's a bummer about the black glitter glass wrap, but silver sparkle is a great finish as well. When did you order your kit? Also, do you have any pics to share? I'd love to see the kit. Cheers.

Yeah, it looks great. I'll try to get some pictures, I don't have any right now.

Only this crappy one from the kit in July -- somebody walked in as Shane was taking pictures and bought it on the spot (was not arranged prior), so nothing better yet exists. When we make room for the new one and set it up, I'll come back with more, maybe even a video.

That's a great looking kit! I had never seen a natural finish Legacy Classic.
