Figuring it out is one thing, being able to play it is another kettle of fish!

The Transmit! application is a great tool to assist you in transcribing. It can read audio as well as movies in various formats.
It can also slow down the sound track (and movie as well), and you can also use it to mark the structure (sections, bars, beats). Try it here!

it SEEMS to be .. a 3 - 2 clave on a cowbell with the right hand
hitting the "and" of 2 and downbeat of 3 on alternating between high tom and side snare .. and just filling in the holes with with a double stroke roll.

maybe it's one of those .. sounds complicated at first but is actually pretty easy things?

I dont think so, not at that speed anyway. The left hand isnt TOO hard to get i suppose, but its just the right hand, what hes doing on the snare with it. I used transcribe! but when slowed down you can differentiate what hes playing on the snare, just one long buzz really.

Here's what I came up with. It's a very cool part indeed!

Try playing the flams pretty open or "slurred".
