Default Gong bass drum project - what head to use?

Hello, everybody, greetings from Norway!
I'm currently finishing a bass drum to gong bass drum conversion (18" drum, 20" head - batter side only), and I can't figure out what head I should choose. I've ruled out any head with a tone/dampening ring on the outside, like the Remo PowerStroke 3/4 or Pinstripes as well as Evans EQ3/4 or similar. This because the head will extend beyond the beading edge by an inch.
I would like to get some tips on what heads to use. Have any of you any experience with gong bass drums and head selection? It basically boils down to single or double ply, or the Evans Hydraulic. Any thoughts? Any input will be appreciated! Thanks!

I would recommend the EQ2 bass batter. Plenty durable, focused tone, and certainly compatible with gong bass drum designs. Cheers!
