Default What is the Meinl line-up?

Hey all,

Did a search and could not find the answer. Does anyone know what the Meinl cymbal product line up is?

Like, what would be considered the "A.Zildjian" line, and the "K.Zildjian" line? They seem to have so many lines it's hard to figure out which ones are targeted at professionals and which ones do they target to the younger student market? Are they all made out of the same metal? Why do so many people break them?

Just wonderin'. Saw some Thomas Lang videos and they sound great, but don't know which ones those are.

Thomas Lang uses what i think is a mix of the Byzance's. His signature Fast Hats are a brilliant finish pair of Byzance's with holes cut in the bottom cymbal.

The Byzance series come in 6 different finishes/sounds. The traditional, the brilliant, dark, extra dry, jazz and vintage. This would probably be considered Meinl's 'flagship' line of cymbals considering the different sounds you can get and the fact that they are all hand hammered B20 alloy.

The MB20 is primarily a rock/metal set of cymbals but are also hand hammered B20's and are a little more musical than most other rock cymbals out there, IMO.

Meinl have recently released the M-Series which from the looks of things, seem to be a contestant for the Sabian XS20. Relatively cheap B20 cymbals that are trying to sound pro, but purposely held back to fit the budget of student or intermediate players perhaps. Very little choice in the M-Series as of yet but more models are expected further down the line.

The Soundcaster line comes in two different versions/finishes. Soundcaster Custom and Soundcaster Fusion. I haven't tried either before but by the looks of things, these may be compared to some A Custom and possibly some regular A Series cymbals? Correct me if i'm wrong.

The MB10 series comes in a variety of different weights and all are brilliant finish. Possibly a contender for the Z3 series.

From there the rest seem like beginners cymbals besides the Generation X series which is purely an effects cymbal line.

xoxo

I've only had a chance to play the Soundcasters, and even then, I don't know what flavor I was playing. But they sounded incredible. I really loved the hats, which were some sort of rippled bottom cymbal. All the cymbals I played on had that half-lathed K Custom look but they didn't look like B20, so I assumed they weren't top of the line(??). Then I looked them up online and their price point is right around where A. Zildjians are, or very close.

I'd be stoked to have a set.

The MB10 series is a new design and uses a b12 alloy that no other cymbal company is using right now.

Thanks. I suppose I could do it by pricing.

I'm really feeling out if maybe trying out a new manufacturer would be a cool thing. I've had the same set of Zildjians now for almost 20 years, love 'em. I'm just debating if something new is in order.

Methinks you mean a B10 alloy that no one else uses. Hence, MB10

And the M-Series isn't comparable to the XS20. They're pretty pricey cymbals. A pair of XS20 hats is less than $200. The M-Series hats are $300 plus.

Yeh the MB10 line are made of a b10 alloy, i use them and they are KILLER cymbals at a very affordable price too :)

But i agree with most people here, i believe the byzance to be their flagship line as they produce different ranges of it depending on the musical tastes of the player/setting, these are also amazing cymbals :)

George.

oops yeah b10 -mb10 duh!!!
fell in love with the sound clip for the "15 mb10 soundwave hats
so I bought a pair.

If you look them up on amazon there's a video and even though the quailty is low
you can hear a whole set of mb10's in the context of a kit and to my ears they sound pretty darn good...unique... and at the same time....scary good:)
