You mean that everyone doesn't stuff their bass drum with packing noodles?
I tore the reso on my bass drum five years ago, I never knew that I could replace it!
I just play it torn, I dig the buzzing/rattling sound that it makes.

Unfortunately, this CL post is actually almost sad in a way...http://bn.craigslist.org/msg/2013218389.html

First of all, I don't think the guy can possibly be asking 3 grand for a kit like this. It may be big, and it may have some nice cymbals and hardware, but I don't know who would pay that much for a used kit that's not absolutely professional. Second of all, "I will not split the kit up, please don't ask." ??? Seriously? I don't think this guy will be getting anyone to bite...I really honestly feel bad for him. It looks like he's selling his prized possession, so he must be hurting for cash.

I got a pretty hillarious response...er eassy from a guy replying to an add for a bassist I put up. To sum it up he has no gear, doesn't know anything about the style of music I said we are (the ad had nothing to do Darkmetal vikingmetal deathmetal or blackmetal), and wants to take over an established band and "re-invent metal!". Yeah...no.
Oh also each paragraph was a different color in the email lol. He responded a few more times but this first email is hillarious.

"Hi,

I came across your ad while on craigslist.

"WTF am I doing looking at musicians on craigslist?" I ask myself. I have some desire to get back into playing, but I'm not playing yet. The very least.... I want to know if there's anyone in Tucson with a strong interest similar music.

I've heard most of the good dark metal, Viking and/or black metal bands. I know exactly what I want to do if I get back into music... would you link me to some of your recordings... something where I can hear the sensibility and vision of your drummer, please.

we've heard this all before. Why am I saying this? I want to know if you are interested in forging some new. Metal has had one foot in the grave for years now. I want to know how aware you are of this fact. It needs vision and planning to make something fresher

you know I'm not ready to GO right now from what I said above. I'm definitely interested in your band and if I like it, I can exercise my hands and skills enough in 3 months to get on par with you. just want to know what your band is about. you won't find a possible future bandmate with a bleaker outlook and commitment to total vision and sound for a band.

I'm relatively new to Tucson (less then 3 months here). I'm thinking it's too small and poor music scene, plus poor, undynamic economy. but we'll see what the future holds."

Best Drummer ready for World Domination (anywhere but home, I can fly)

Hello, I am probably the best drummer in the world and I am cool. I can read sheet music on the spot, frontwards, backwards, and upside down...yes, even upside down my friends. My memory is amazing because I even have photographic memory. Just give me 10 sheets of music to read, and I will have it memorized within 5 seconds. Yes, 5 seconds, not 6. I need a band that has at least 12 years of gigs booked, I can learn new material within 5 bars in advance, while on stage, with the 10 chord changes with my supremely amazing 500% accurate ear. Not to mention, I have about 3 ears. That's how good I am. I have styled my hair like the guy in the beatles from a poster I picked up near a trash can I found in my fish tank. The ladies love me because I am pretty much the drumming god. I am also a black chinese kid. I am a drumming god. Serious inquires only

Can you believe the "CRASH SYMBOL" was owned by "ZILGIDAN"?!.

Pretty awsome.

WTF is zilliance? I've always wanted that fatback sound and now I know how to get it!! You know the "Almond" Brothers are two guys that live down his street.

I'm starting a new dictionary

Zilliance; Multiply brilliance x a zillion and you have Zillance.

Fatback; The fatty portion on the back of a pig is known as Fatback
The "Fatback Sound" is the same sound that is created when you slap the back of a pig.

The Almond Brothers were custom drum builders that made drums from Almond tree wood.

Hey, he does have a Mapex Black Panther snare.

Must have short term problems though...

The funny thing is that the kit would probably sound good if it was set up in a playable way!
He never even realized that since none of the drums match he could part them out and make more money.
Would you really encourage people to call you anytime?
Would you ever leave your phone # on a craigs ad?

Just saw this one on my local CL, I love the tape, it adds a certain sad character to these drums.

The ad reads:

"Ignore the tape...it's just to deaden the ring a little

pics say it all...comes with everything you see...including a guarantee to rock!

Warning...if you play this kit...ladies will throw their panties at you (that's why I have to get rid of it)

call mike"

Six feet of duct tape per drum should deaden any sound not just the ring. And hell I don't fit in ladies undies.

I can't really complain as much about this one because of the comparatively good writing. The duct-tape and the tom angles kill any chance of okay-ness though.

Here is my theory of the average craigs seller.

This person wakes up one fine morning and they realize that they want to sell something that is collecting dust around their home.

They boot up their computer for the first time in years and they somehow manage to find the eBay site.
They try to post their item on eBay and they soon realize that it requires a functioning 4th grade level brain, a limited knowledge of computers and the internet, salesmanship, the ability to put a picture on a computer, and the ability to write a legible ad.
They also notice that the eBay items have been dusted off.
Then there is the fact that you have to have a Paypal account!
You will also have to ship your item to far away places like New Jersey!

Thats it for them! They are craigslist bound after that mind blowing eBay experience.

Default Re: The best of Craigslist

Well, I had some gear for sale on craigslist. I'm sitting here at 11:45 at night and a kid (sounded like early teen) calls and starts asking for prices. Now, is it just me, or should even someone of that age know that just because a phone number is online doesn't mean that you can call any time of the night.
