Default Demon Drive Killer? ...maybe

Hey guys,

Taye's coming out with a cool new pedal.

Check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDLNk3ZYv4c

I'd like to actually play one. Anyone know when these become available?

That was the weirdest trailer I've ever seen. That was for a pedal, right?

Agreed.

If this pedal takes as long to get to the point as the trailer does, the Demon Drive is safe.

I dunno, I don't think a chain drive pedal will be able to unseat the DD.

Kinda like how the DD didn't unseat the DW9000, which imo, was due to the fact that the dd is direct drive, not chain.

and to be honest, I don't think this pedal will be as good as the Falcon is or the Speed Cobra will be. It may be as smooth and quick, but Taye (in my experience) is not as big a company as Tama or Mapex, and it could come down to that. But you never know I could be wrong! But I'll still never give up my Demon Drives.

Although it could kill the DD in terms of price but that would be just horrible.

p.s. I swear I posted an answer on this earlier today....

And I swear I saw it........where it went though remains a mystery!!

Agreed...direct drive vs chain drive = apples and oranges. The DW9000 Killer, perhaps?

Thanks! now I know I'm not completely crazy.

maybe this is a duplicate thread? or I accidentally pissed off a moderator and they erased all signs of my post! lol

I dunno if it will be the DW9000 killer either, the 9000 is one of the finest pedals out there. it could be the Iron Cobra killer though, but that pedal has already be replace by Tama so you never know.

I heard $799 list for the double

Looks like beaters can go in and out (towards the head) along with the 'of course' up and down.

The main frame looks stout... good.

Not visible is independent beater angle adjustment, looks like a set screw to the main shaft on both the beater and chain cams. Foot board looks like its adjusted by moving the chain... ooopsy!

I don't see anything else really, maybe ceramic bearings(?).

Looks like a $400 (list) pedal

I really do want to love the new SPEED COBRA, this thing I don't care about.

The DD is pretty high up there, saying something from Taye could beat it is a stretch.

I'm going to agree with Les on this one.

More adjustments are good! This is healthy for the pedal market, we benefit.

I'll get excited when someone offers a heated pedal board (I play bare foot), or a pedal that adjusts hydraulically from a stand mountable remote pod.

Its clear the stick holder will be the dealmaker :)

I got the chance to play a DD double today at GC and I was fairly impressed. It is clean looking and functioned smoothly, and I appreciated the artsy-looking u-joints.

I wasn;t able to dial it in to my preferences, but I think it would be a good choice as an alternative to the Axis for the shortboard model.

It was not, however, an alternative for the longboard Axis. It did not replicate the benefits of the Axis LB for heel-toe, and only seemed to provide a longer foot surface. I also didn't get the impression that u-joints were in it for the long haul, despite being very good looking. I also didn't like the bump on the footboard, but that might be something that could be overcome.

For a double pedal, it played very well and would certainly compete favorably against Yammys Flying Dragon doubles and the Trick doubles. I don't think it will compete favorably against the Axis longboards in playability, but I will admit that the Pearl is cleaner looking. The moving mass of the Pearl was noticeably greater than the Axis, and ultimately that is where the Axis beats it out. Inertia.

I am glad that there are alternatives, and that people are revisiting the direct drive pedals instead of simply dismissing them because they feel so different.

The Taye is not a contender. It doesn't appear to have anything over its competition which would be DW9000/5000 and other camco style pedals. WAY too much moving mass, and I don;t know about you guys but I don't need a ton of adjustability, just the basics; spring tension, beater angle, footboard angle. I do like the ability to change cam profile, which Axis seems to do the best at.

looks interesting and id like a go, especially like the red bits on the spring rocker.

definatly dont think it will unseat the 9000s from my kit though. cant really improve on that as a chain pedal mechanically. and cosmetically the 9000s win although the frame looks good and solid.

would like to hear from mayor grunt due to him owning last gen metalworks which admittedly won best in show a while back at namm did it not.
