Default RemOs buzzing?

I can hear a slight buzz when I play my toms that have Remo Rings on them.. any ideas to stop that? The buzz is certainly coming from the rings.

Yeah remove it. Buy some Moongels. It let it sing and it's versatile.

I think its from the rims coming into contact with the ring. The ring probably doesn't lay flat to the surface because it's probably just just a tad bigger. It's okay if it's not too loud. If you're playing it shouldn't be a major problem.

This would be my solution as well.

Where (and how) do you guys position your moongels? May I have a picture as an example, that'd be great.

The tuning of your toms possibly needs a bit of a touch-up. 9 out of 10 chances you won't need O's or Moongel once they are tuned correctly.

Mine do this too... mainly my 12", its from them bouncing up and down against the rim. I don't notice it when I'm actually playing, just when everything's quiet and I hit the toms one at a time slowly... If its possible to flatten the toms angles that may help... But I wouldn't worry about it unless you can actually hear it when playing "for real".

I may do that, I'm still deciding. I definitely have enough moongel to cover my set. I've got my floor tom the way I want, it required two moongel.. but anyway.. I still need to try the other toms. I've grown used to using remOs for all the sets I've drummed on over the years.

out of curiosity what heads are you using? How are you basing the sound of your kit, from behind it or 10-15 ft in front? If it's behind that's not where you want to judge from you need to be in front and hear it from the crowd perspective.

what exactly will tuning do to control the resonance?? if he wants a deader sound then tuning isnt gonna change that. try the moongels or maybe the evens ec-2 heads with the ring in them,

Tuning is the foremost contributor to the sound of your drums. Tuning affects the pitch, resonance and sustain of your drums and with proper tuning can attenuate a lot of the snare's sympathetic vibrations made by other drums with similar fundamental frequencies or harmonics. By correctly tuning your drums you can eliminate "pitch bending" problems, unless your into that type of sound. Don't use bandages when the cure is right there at your drum key. Much of the resonance can be controlled just by using slightly different pitches between the two heads on the drum.
