Default DW 9550 Remote Hats

I'm in the market for a new hat stand; I just can't stand my hats being as far away as they are anymore. I am going to relocate my hats to the center of my snare (I use a double kick pedal). I have been looking at the DW 9550s - they seem to offer the responsiveness of a direct drive, but also the flexibility of a cable. Does anyone use the 9550s? I've heard people complain that the hats don't have a SHORT enough option... If I'm going to be relocating my hats to center snare (the remote pedal just on the left of the slave kick pedal, and the kick pedals just about shoulder width apart), do you think the 9550s will fit the range? I estimate this is about 2 ft. or so between where I want the pedal and where I want the hat....

In this type of configuration, does the shaft cross my slave kick pedal? Is it even going to work? Thanks in advance for your tips, guys.
