Default Kelly Shu & Nady D90

Installed the Kelly Shu on to my Yamaha Oak Custom bass drum yesterday. I was a bit skeptical at first but decided to buy the Kelly Shu along with a Nady D90 bass drum microphone. It took me about 30 minutes to install and I'm not the most patient person when it comes to sizing and cutting and fitting. But, this was a piece of cake. I played a gig last night and the sound guy was ready to stick a Beta 52 on a stand in front of my kick but I told him about my internal microphone. He did a couple of tweaks and my bass drum sounded great. I bought the composite model of the Kelly Shu, cheaper and it does the trick.

RT on ... another Shu user.

They work great. I have a D6 in my kick. A couple of weeks ago while in the studio, the engineer was trippin' out on it. Said he was going to get one for his kit for live work.

I'm not knocking the quality of sound with the Kelly Shu, but $48 seems a bit on the high side. I guess I'm just cheap. I made my own internal Mic mount using an old clip and $13 mic spider i found on ebay. It works (and sounds) great.

I was going to get a Kelly Shu at one point, but I also made my own internal mount for about $10

It's not cheap I agree. My other 2 kits have internal mics as well and those mounts were about $20.00 each but I think their out of business now? I could not find one anywhere. However I do like the suspension system of the Kelly Shu.
