Default What is the value of a 2008 Roland TD-3?

Kind of a long story...but I bought a Roland TD-3 V Drum set around July 2008. I lent it to a friend and his apartment had a big fire. Needless to say, the drums were destroyed. Luckily he had insurance so he got a bunch of money. I'm not sure if the insurance company gave him values on all of the stuff, or if they gave him one big check and he can do what he wants with it (I think its the one big check).

My question is what should I have him pay me for those drums (he is aware that he owes me money, and there are no hard feelings)?

2 Years ago I paid $1000.00 USD for them (they were brand new). What do you think is fair asking price? I saw one going for about 600 dollars on eBay. Is that about right? More? Less?

Well if you ask me he owes you what the replacement cost of what buying one new is or whatever the cost of the model that replaced it is.

I would ask for full value. Gotta replace them and inflation is a killer

It's not a sack of money, it was an item. He owes you the replacement. If you can get it for $600 in good shape, awesome. If it costs more, whatever. It's now on him to replace your drums.

The way I see it is if you had bought them used then he owes you a used kit. You bought them new so he owes you a new kit. Me personally I wouldn't accept a used kit as a replacement when I bought it new. I bought it new and know how it was taken care of, not sure what you are going to get used.

Am sorry to hear about the fire at his place, hopefully no one was injured!

Ask to see his policy and see if it includes full replacement value or current value with depreciated cost. The policy would be more costly if it had replacement value on it, but ask to see it. Do they still make that model. If not you may have to come to an agreement. When they asked him about money he may have ballparked everything ( guessed at the value) and they paid him one check minus his deductible.

If you want the drums back have him replace them. How he does it is of little concern to you as long as you get replacement drums that are in the same shape for the ones you lent him.

If you want the cash value then go to EBay, Craigslist, etc. and see what others may be getting for the same equipment. It's really a matter of what the market will bear not a guess on the depreciated value based on the original purchase price.

But the kit wasn't new at the time when it was destroyed. It was used. If your 1994 Mazda RX7 gets burned up in a fire they aren't going to buy you a 2010 model. You're owed a replacement for what you lost, which is a used TD-3.
