Default Traded my DWs for ........

The best sounding drums I have ever heard (to my ears). Deep in my heart I have always been a birch guy I totally respect maple and I do like maple but my favorite is birch and with the added bubinga these drums sound like there miked up........coming out the pa. The FATTEST drums I have ever heard and they resonate just perfect. This is also my first kit with a little floor tom (12x14) which I love cause I can really tune the 16 way low.

Yeah the DWs were great and are great drums but everytime I played my friends B/B I always walked away saying "man I got to have those drums" that fat wet sound. The inner plys of bubinga really make it the perfect sound for me.

Thanks.....If and when I start playing more (with a band) I will get another maple kit down the road. I will admit it was a shock going from a 26 to a 22. Man you just can't get the air from a 22.

Very nice kit!

Going from a 26 to a 22 is a bit different, but at least you have the depth to get the fat sound. I really like (prefer) the 20" depth on bass drums.
I don't mind 22's when they are on back line kits, but there's nothing that'll take the place of my 26's. They just sound and feel too good.

I like 24's too, and I'll probably get one for my red Sparkle kit sometime, but I don't think I'd ever buy a kit with a 22.
It's always been that way for me (maybe it's one of my "things")---but when you always walk away saying "I have to get one of these", that tells you something!

Seems like you made a good move!

Have fun with your kit!!

I always thought that particular Tama finish looked like toothpaste. In other words, I like the Broken Glass a lot better, but hell, it's not my kit, is it!? That's great that you found a kit that's just what you're looking for!

That turquoise sparkle finish is KILLER!! Really nice looking set. Is that a wrap or a lacquer?

You cannot go wrong with Tama. That kit will sound even better over time.

The company I used to teach for sold Ludwig, Pearl and DW. I have a great deal of experience with those brands as a result. DW, while being an outstanding corporation, especially in it's dealing with pro's, always left me cold. There was just not enough of what I perceived to be high quality. For example, Collectors series kits made in Mexico with a made in USA badge attached. Ludwig is getting better all the time. Pearl is Pearl. Always reliable.

But now I work amongst Gretsch, Tama, Yamaha, Sonor, Mapex among others and I must say I am blown away! The quality in a Tama drum surpases by far what I am used to. I've always been a Sonor guy so there are no surprises there. But even Yamaha's attention to detail is such that they actually place a rubber gasket on bearing edges before shipment!!! I kid you not. Even Mapex are blowing me away!!!

My friend you have made a fine choice and I applaud you. You have certainly traded up.
