Great looking kit! I have a real soft spot for any type of red finish. ;)

Thanks for the comments!! I love the Tangerine Glass too.
I just replaced the heads and I would welcome any comments on alternatives. I really liked the factory DW/Remos. I used Remos dampening rings. Loved the tone but got tired of catching sticks on them having them fly off. I don't hate the EC2 SST's but I think I want to go back to a single ply at some point. I am back to playing after 20 plus years so I am learning this all over again. Back in the day I played Remo CS Black dots, pinstripes and later evans hydraulics with no reso heads. I consider myself a beginner when it comes to tuning but I know I'll get there. I have went through severa combinations of base batter heads and resos. The stock DW batter/reso was too muddy and too much resonance for me. I went with an EMAD2 batter and loved it. Then an Aquarian SK II and noticed it's a bit dry but more defined and got used to it. Now I've replace the DW reso with the Aquarian Regulator. Nice sound but it's too dead. Next test will be the EMAD2 with the Emad Reso.

Beautiful kit. I'm impartial to red and that is just stunning. And for heads, maybr just go with evans G2 over G1. You can fill a bunch of ranges with them and with those drums it should be no problem.

DWs + EC2s = win. I'm not sure why but out of all the heads I've tried on my dubs these have worked the best. They really enhance the fat, low tone of the drums and tune up so easily.

I bought the PDP equivalent w/ 24" kick and the red sparkle wrap. Love the kit and love the finish. I would still kill for the DW equivalent though.

Do you mean DW batters, resos or the drums themselves? EC 2 batters or resos?

Nice drums. I seem to always go back to the factory heads. Everytime I change them and after a couple of months I slap the factory heads back on Im always like.......yeah this is the sound. If you think about it you get more low end from the single ply head cause you dont have to crank it like you do a 2ply. My drums have a deeper sound with the stock heads than with remo emps...........the emps just mute the sound more.

Do you use Moon Gel or anything to control the overtones with the factory heads?
I have to agree that the factory heads sound great.
How often do you guys change reso heads? I been told every 3rd of 4th head change.
An update on the Aquarian SK II/Regulator combo. I removed the DW pillow from the inside and it sounds much better now. Really great. It's hard to believe that little pillow made that much difference. So much for Bob Gatzen's advice to always have something in the bass drum.

As in EC2 heads on DW drums. I run them on mine and out of all the heads I've tried they've worked the best.

Are you using EC2's for resos as well as batters?

No just stock resos... EC2 resos would murder the tone.

I will definately be ordering stock heads again after these comments. I love their sound. I asked my dealer about the stock heads when I bought the EC2 SST's and he said he had never had anyone order stock heads from him. I also plan to try others over time. Maybe G2's, Coated Ambassadors or even Evans onyx.

I had some DWs for a while... I didn't use them enough, so I sold them and kept my Pearls, which I need to repost on here. Great sounding drums nonetheless and your Ruby Glass are GORGEOUS!!!!

I definitely recommend coated Ambassadors for batter heads on anything except kick drum - they're the perfect balance of everything, if you ask me.
