Default Pearl Wingloc's. Are they really this useless?

It's all in the title.

Picked up a couple of these recently. Now I'm forever searching for them in the bottom of the traps case. They end up everywhere but on the cymbal stand. Can they really be this feeble? Or is it just a sick joke by Pearl to find out how many suckers for small peices of plastic rubbish they can find?

Anyone got anything good to say about them? What am I missing......is there actually a way to keep the damn things attached to the thread?

I've been using them since I picked up my Icon Rack, and they've worked fabulously for me. Whenever I put them in the case, I just take the Wingloc (once the Cymbal is off), shove it as far down as it will go on the stand, and lock it back it up. Haven't had any problems.

Do you use them on Pearl stands or on a different brand of stand?

Tried 'em, don't like them. A surprising hardware dud from Pearl.

Chief flaw is integrating the cymbal sleeve with the unit itself. Actually slows things down when packing up.

They seem to wear quickly, too.

Bottom line: most of my Pearl stands and booms came with Winglocks, and I replaced them all with the Gibraltar sleeve/cup thingies (below) and standard wing nuts.

I recommend cymbal crowns. No wingnuts, they screw onto your cymbal stand threads and you squeeze them to get cymbals on and off. You almost dont need felts either, they're made of rubber. The down side is you usually have to replace them about every year or so depending on how much use they see, but it's well worth it to me to not have to deal w/ wingnuts every setup/breakdown.

Thanks for chiming in men.

E.r.a, I'm using Pearl 900 hardware, so it should fit like a glove.....unfortunately, it just ain't the case. I just can't seem to get enough 'bite' on the thread and as a result the things keep falling off. Luckily I've only wasted money on two of them. I doubt I shall waste any more.

Further investigation is needed........first stop, Larry's cymbal crowns and Bling's Vater nuts.

Thanks again.

1. Cut the sleeve off of the "wingloc".
2. Go to a hardware store and get a couple of feet of clear tubing for a dollar or two. It comes in different diameters. I was able to match up pearl stands and older, smaller diameter Tama stands. Cut a few pieces about an inch and use for sleeves, a foot or two will last a long time.

I don't know if they are that useless but they are really expensive for what they are. I wanted plastic tighteners for my stands since the metal ones would rattle from vibrations so I looked into these. The price seemed a rip off to me (9€/piece!!!) so I got the Tama tighteners which only cost me 1€/piece.

I highly recommend Slicknuts (I guess Vater is distributing them now). I have used them for several years on all my cymbals and they have always worked well. They also improve the appearance of the set I believe.

My complaint with slick nuts is...they're too wide. I always hit them.
Other than that they're great, just too big for me.

That did the trick. Problem solved.......and so glaringly obvious too.

The top sleeve is too long and is stopped by the bottom sleeve before the wingloc can grab the thread. By cutting it off I was able to get the wingloc down far enough on the thread for it to lock on. Silly design, but once removed there seems to be no further probelms.

No slicknuts or crowns at my local, I'll swing by my not so local and check out their wares when I can.

Thanks all.
