Default 5002 Chain Adjustment...Master Link?

Anyone here ever adjusted the chain on their dw 5002's? I have no idea how to get the Master Link on and off.

Suggestions?

When I played DW the master link was easy to get off, well..... kinda.

I don't know about the new ones, but when i did get the master clip/link out, I shit canned it and used a zip tie.

Zip tie worked great, never broke and easy to change for adjustments. I still have an old CAMCO with zip ties on it.

This picture shows the installation of the "clip" on a motorcycle chain. The chain on your 5002 is the same style, just a much smaller size. This picture shows it going back together, and removal is just the opposite.

I grabbed my slave 5002 so I can give you some rough guidelines on that side...
  1. Remove the piece that holds the batter. This will give you good access to the chain.
  2. With some small, flat nosed pliers, unsnap the clip. Grab the chain link on the pin farther away from the opening on the clip, and the back of the clip with the opening. It takes some patience at first, but it gets better with practice.
  3. Remove the "plate" which is under the "clip"
  4. Remove the Master link portion. (the piece with the pins attached)
  5. Move the chain to the desired hole
  6. Replace the "plate", and reverse step 1. Place the pliers on the pin near the opening of the clip and on the clip itself and squeeze softly. You must make sure you have the master link portion (the piece with the pins attached) pushed all the way in. It has small reliefs in it where the clip fits. If the clip is on in those reliefs, it will be stretched out and fall apart for sure!

If you are still not sure, just look for information on joining roller chain. I am an industrial mechanic, and have to do this almost daily at work on larger chain, but it is the same process for industrial roller chain, motorcycle chain, and drum pedal chain...

Hope that helps!

I just did my DW 7000 and was as easy as pie. Like the great photo above, slide the link down where it is keyed. Remove the side piece then pull out the double pin, and reverse when you are done.
