Default Die-Cast Hoops

I've read several of older threads on this subject but couldn't find one with a link to a vendor selling replacement hoops. I've been able to find replacements for the snare, but no others.

Does anyone have a link they can share for a retailer who offers replacement die-cast hoops in all/various drum sizes?

Thanks for the help!

Pearl sells diecast hoops. Check out Interstate Music or Musicians Friend, that's where I get my die casts.

Did you outfit all of your toms with die-casts? What sizes do you have? Batter and resonant sides?

Sorry for all the questions, just gathering intel ;-)

Try drummaker.com. Cheapest place I have found and they are good hoops! Have them on all my toms and main snare.

Yes and no. If I could find black die casts for my DW kit, I'd get them. (I could probably hunt them down, Tama makes them, but it's not a priority for me in this economy) But my other sets (Pearl, Yamaha) have them top and bottom. (10, 12, 16" toms, I always use them on any snare, I really notice a diff)

I like the way the die casts tune, but seriously, there's not a lot of difference in the sound between the 2. The reason I can say this is I did an A/B comparison, (batter hoops only) recorded it, and posted the results here. No one could tell any difference. If anything the triple flanged sustained a microsecond longer, to my surprise, but no drastic audible difference at all. I like how they look, I like how they tune. I don't care if they add weight. I'll get them eventually for my DW's

Drum Factory Direct

Precision Drum Company

American Music Drumparts

Ego Drum Supply

Drummaker

I think you can also find some Gretsch and Ludwig hoops at the bigger dealers (e.g. Sam Ash).

Make sure you weight the huge cost difference between die cast and triple flanged against the negligible benefits you'll see with them for toms.

Snares are a different story.

Die cast cost about 3 times as much as a good 2.3 mm triple flanged.

I like them on some snares. They focus the sound and shorten the sustain. Rim shots and cross sticking is also enhanced. I run them on both sides, batter side only, and snare side only. You can try different combos and see what works.

I have die cast hoops on my Yamaha kit and don't notice much of a difference on the toms. The Yamaha hoops are aluminum so they don't add much weight.

The zinc die cast hoops are heavy and may choke the toms. I don't think I'd bother with them on toms.

Forget die cast, get the better performance and protect your bearing edges with S-HOOPS, they look cooler too.

I have a 402 Supra and didn't like the 1.6 mm hoops. I tried die cast zinc but thought they were a bit too much for that drum - lost a little of its Ludwig-ness, so I decided on 2.3 mm hoops. The question became std triple flange or S-Hoop. I flipped the proverbial coin and it came up S-Hoop top and bottom.

They're very nice and don't over do it like the die cast did on that snare, but they were noticeably more stout than the 1.6s. I had also experimented with regular 2.3s and the S-Hoops aren't that different in sound, but the playing feel is much easier on the hands. They're just easier to hit and get a nice stick saving rim shot out of.
