Default Are drummers a subculture?

Do you think that by being a drummer you are part of a subculture?
I personally think that drummers are a subculture but I was wondering what other drummers think, I mean if Emo and Goth or skateboarders and anime lovers can have a subculture can't drummers?

I'd say that bassoonists are much more of a subculture than drummers.

lol - musicians in general are a subculture. I have never known many drummers and can only think of two drummers who I would count as friends (not counting e-friends).

We do seem to bond in that common enemy way when we speak about egotistical singers and guitarists, self-righteous keys players and bumbling bassists.

Sure. Everybody belongs to a multitude of subcultures.
You could if fact be an Emo, Goth, skateboarding anime loving drummer.

I agree, as musicians we are a subculture b/c we appreciate music way too much. Much more than the average person, sometimes to obsessive extremes. I think music is probably the most import thing in my life. Excluding the basic hierarchy of needs such, food, shelter, comfort, of course. I am obsessed with playing instruments & listening to albums.

Mariners, probably, although I'm sure not the most popular of passtimes with the rest of the crew. Could be worse though. Bagpipes spring to mind.
Atomic, hmmm, got me there.
Machine guns, yes, death metal & similar genre.
Cataneous tissue, had to Google that.

Of course, I was being flippant as usual. As drummers, we're sub just about everything according to popular opinion (see drummers are dumb thread).

Interesting, where do you live? Almost all of my friends are musicians or where musicians when I became friends with them. In fact, I have pretty eclectic interest and some of them I wish could talk more than just the industry or the music we share.

I think to be a subculture the life style would have to reflect same. Too many drummers here have regular jobs and then play drums. We don't hang out in the park or the half-pipe waiting to see what's new. And you can't live with your parents.

In Sydney, Dale. I've had a lot of muso friends over the years, but not many have been drummers, generally people I've played with in bands. My best friend is our singer but when we first became friends it was through both being involved in web design. At the time I considered myself an ex-drummer (not sure there is such a thing these days) and it was some time before we found out about each others' musical interests.

Yes, it's easy to talk shop all the time but probably not the best thing for your sanity :)
