Default Bass drum head on the outside?

The head on the outside...like the one that might have a hole in it for a mic...ripped and has been ripping in more places every time I play. I have no idea how this happened but I'd just the to know what the exact term is for this head so that I can look into replacing. Thanks

Thanks. And would you guys suggest getting one with a whole in it?

I'm not playing live btw...no need for a mic. What's the difference between them anyway?

The hole is mainly for mic placement, but it also vents (or ports) the bass. With a ported bass there is less rebound of your beater head. Try w/o first, if you do not like the feel or sound carefully cut a hole in it.
