Default Tambourine stick sound

Hey all,

I got a tambourine that I've mounted next to my hi-hats (not on the hi-hat stand). I wanna play some 16th note grooves with the tambourine like a hi-hat replacement, but the plasticky stick sound is pretty irritating. was wondering if you guys have any idea how to get rid of that.

I was thinking tape some sponge or hard rubber on it, but it's pretty unglam haha

Just FYI, tamborine's something like this one:

Thanks!

The new-ish Rhythm Tech drumset tambourine and the Pearl- uh, forgot the name of it, but they both actually come off their mounts for comfortable hand playing- both have playing surfaces that reduce stick-on-plastic sound. I have the Pearl one and it sounds fantastic. It has a crack in it though, so I was thinking of moving it to my rehearsal kit and getting the RT one- anybody here have it? Whatcha think?

I used to think the same thing...(I have a LP Cyclops) I hated the plastic stick sound...but then one day at a gig I had my drums set up and the opening bands drummer played a groove with the tambourine and it sounded amazing...I think the "stick" sound gives the tambourine a staccato sound and attack that allows it to cut through the music. The stick sound is most certainly drowned out in a live musical context. In a recording situation however, I would overdub the tambourine playing it by hand.
