Default Ludwig CS custom elite question

Has the Ludwig CS custom elite series always been 100% Birch? Or are there other wood varients on older models?

Saw a 14x6.5 10lug on CL cheap and have some spare cash. Also I don't own any Birch snare drums yet. 50$ worth it?

The Accent CS Custom Elite, yes. Accents are not 100% birch.

My opinion, yes, the snare is worth $50. if you don't like it, the hardware alone is worth the 50 clams. You can always buy another shell, birch even, and put a new snare together.

I think the CS Custom Elite snare is a bit thin sounding, but I need to try a newer head on mine....

I had a Ludwig 6.5 Birch snare and it was OK.
I sold it, because it was a bit thin sounding for my taste....but for 50 bucks, the hardware is worth that easy.

I have an Accent Custom Elite kit that I'm just now selling. The toms and kick are very nice. The snare was by far the weakest drum, to the point that I couldn't use it. The shell is ok, the rims are fine, the strainer is junk, as are the lugs. The lugs were so tight on the tension rods, that they really couldn't be adjusted smoothly. I didn't try to lubricate anything, as I knew this would be a temporary kit for me and didn't want it messy, so it would be clean when I sold it.

Not sure why the hardware on the other drums is better, but I have no problem tuning the kick and toms, and they actually sound really nice. I had the 5x14 snare and sold it for $60. Your best bet, if you buy it, might be to strip the hardware, install new lugs and strainer, reassemble it with new heads and see how that works out.

BGH, What color kit do you have? I am looking for an 8" x 8" tom in Amber gloss in the Custom Elite series.

Evil, I have a 2-ply but it is pretty stretched, I will try a new head soon. Yes it is a 6.5".

One of those Accent kits was maple, and only came in a natural finish.

Yes, there was to be an Accent maple series, but I don't believe they ever came out. It seems that right before they were supposed to ship to stores something happened, and they were never released. Must've been a bunch of bum kits or something. There's probably a couple of kits out there that were for displays and demos though.
