Default Small Hole in resonant head

so up retuning my snare i found a small hole(less than half a cm) in my resonant head. Now Im trying to tune the snare but im getting a lot of resonance that i dont want, is this caused by he whole or me being bad at tuning. and yes eventually i will get a new head

That small hole shouldn't make that much difference. I frequently have played with a similar hole. Usually the snares wear a small hole in the reso near the bearing edge. I have probably played for months before I noticed the hole.

If anything, it should make the snare drier. It doesn't make that much of a difference, though, in my experience...
