A lot of times when I play gigs I'll just use whatever kit is there - and it feels funny playing a traditional set-up.
That being said, lots of drummers try out my kits and love the layout of them because they're usually really low and everything is close together.

I just took these with my phone at rehearsal tonight. I posted a driver's seat pic about two years ago but I didn't have the double pedal, metronome or the mixer and headphone amp for my in ears.

I actually meant the choice of instruments (huge and supershallow bass drum, roto toms,
no traditional snare, ...) than positioning. And it's not meant to be insulting.

I started playing seriously about a year ago after an almost 30 year hiatus. During that time I had a Pearl Exportish kit. Two weeks ago I received my Gretsch Renown Fusion kit. There's a 20" kick, 10", 12" toms and 14" floor tom. I got the 14" x 5" snare.

The sound of the kit is phenomenal but I won't get into that in this thread (but it is SO PHENOMENAL). My Peal kit, plus the Gretsch kit I owned before it were full of toms and this set will be no exception. Trouble is while I could get the core kit right away, the 8", 13" and 16" drums are on order.

The cymbals are;
Zildjian 13" New Beat Hi Hats
Zildjian 20" Ping Ride
Zildjian 16" & 17" Rock Crash
A Zildjian 18" Medium Thin Crash
K Zildjian 8" Splash
Sabian B8 10" Splash

Hardware is DW where it counts with a few Pearl and Yamaha bits holding up some clangy parts.

Oh, and my stool is firm yet soft - and made by Pearl.

Not taken that way at all! I really dig building super odd kits and having people raise their eybrows and say "WTF is that?" Check out my blog - lots of weird stuff on there! http://crazydrumkits.blogspot.com
I'm working on something right now that is absolutely ridiculous and can't wait to show it off here!

I also have step by step instructions in my blog so other people can try out what I do! I get lots of old crappy shells from my other drummer friends, usually free. I love making beautiful and unique stuff from something someone else would toss out or not use.

Here's my Mapex Saturn kit, unusually for me set up at home.

Sizes are 8x7, 10x7, 12x8, 16x14, 22x20 and 14x5.5 Black Panther steel snare, pearl 2002c Eliminator pedals, Mapex 900 hihat, Pearl rack (2 sides only) Tama booms, mapex tom holders, Cymbals are all Zildjian, A custom Mastersound Hats, 18+19 crashes, 22" Z3 medium heavy ride- a beast!, 18" Oriental China Trash and 10" A splash in standard finish. Part of my gigging set up not shown is a Shure PHW600 in ear monitor system, a MyArt personal monitor amp, and a Shure SM58 vocal mic.

The Blue Bell is incredible. I bought several rides before I bit the bullet and bought this one. I love the ride, and it doesnt come off the kit. I go back and forth between HHX Evolutions and Signatures on the crashes but the ride and hats are rarely removed.

My snare is a Pearl 6"x10" Popcorn. It's all Maple. I love it because of the crack it makes! I now use it as my main snare and moved my 5.5"x14" off as the side snare. I think it just makes me sound a bit different!
Blessings!

Cameo, you and I are going to get along quite well! I also have a 20" Extra Thin Hammered and 14" Extra Dry Hats, and a 20" Extra Dry Thin on layaway. Great setup!

This is my 68' Rogers kit with a 65' Ludwig Acro and Meinl pies. I love it!

Yeah, best Meinlers forever!
...but I may be letting the 14" Extra Dry go. Since I have the 18", I can later match it with a 18" Traditional Med-Thin and use a 14" Traditional Medium as x-hat.

You talking 18" Hats? That sounds sick. Reminds me of Ronnie Vanucci or Pridgen's hats. I'd like to eventually get something brighter, maybe something bigger too. But for now I'm just filling out my essential setup.

Meinlers unite! Haha

They sound really good! I'd definitely invest in them if I was you. I didn't know what to expect when I got them but as soon as I tuned them up nice they sounded really big and deep, very clear sound as well.

I lowered my rack toms about as much as I feel comfortable doing so. Perhaps in the future I might do a 20x20 bass drum to get the same feel as the 22x18 but have the ability to lower my toms even more so. I like to keep everything as low and easy to play as possible.

Black Dots FTW!

Bit of an update: new side snare (Black Panther Maple/Cherry 12x7) and bell cymbal (Paiste Accent 8").

Also experimenting with alternate hihat placement to the right of my left kick pedal, which seems to be much more comfortable. And it doesn't get in the way of my 8" tom at all, surprisingly enough!

That is stunning, and it looks like we have similar good taste in pedals and snare drums! How do you like the trick throwoff kit for the supraphonic?
