Paiste PST5?

Hey everyone im new here and thought the sight seemed to help clarify things for alot of others and thought id give it a shot.

I've recently been looking at buying some mid ranged cymbals.

I've owned some horrible Sabian Solar's and some Zildjian planet Z's I saw some brand new Paiste PST5's and a relatively cheap price.

Also before anybody says, I have also been looking for second hand Pro cymbals on Ebay, etc without having any luck with any in my area.

So I was just wondering what others personally thought about the PST5's

Not so great. I bet you could score some Alphas for about the same amount of money (used?) if you try. The Alphas are a lot better.

PST5s are decent cymbals... I have a 14 and 16 thin crash and they are ok pretty good deal for i paid for em BUT After buying a med ALpha 16 i would say go ahead and save your money for the Alphas. YOu can find some good deals on Alphas used if you look around

If you do decide to buy PST 5, go for thinner models, at least in crashes. All PST 5 cymbals are very bright, and thicker models ("Medium" and "Rock") tend to have a very high pitched overtone that gets pretty annoying after a while. Thinner models sound quite nice for the price.

I agree... thinner cymbals.. But if you could buy alphas...try it.

I owned a set of PST5s. Personal opinion: Hihat is defined, but heavy and doesn't really "open up" like you'd want it to when playing it loose. Crashes were good, especially if you put energy in them. I owned Medium crashes, so go for Thins if you can. The ride was lackluster. But I'm way too picky with rides (hint: I don't like most ride cymbals) so take that with a grain of salt.

And finally, almost ANYTHING is better than Planet Zs, holycrudman.

Yeah I've been considering trying to find some extra money to get some alphas, which arent too much more expensive anyway.

haha, yeah the Planet Z's are horrible cymbals.

agreed, planet z's are really low end zildjian but good for beginner drummers. if your wanting to buy new cymbals make sure you test them before you buy them.. just don't go off what people say off of hear because thats their oppinion and yours will be different. test them at a local music store before you buy.
