Default Julius Pastorius

...

Thats right, Jaco's son.

Plays with his twin brother Felix on bass and Mike Bendy on guitar.
Heard them at the Zinc Bar last night and boy, did they smoke the place!

Julius is a fantastic player steeped in the trilogic space of Jazz, Funk, and R & B, kinda like his dad, who takes lots of chances and is pushing the outer edges of the groove.

I was so impressed. Wondering if anybody else has heard these guys and what they think?

I'm impressed, Abe. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=229773goWPY

So glad Jaco left his genes behind ... it was disappointing to think that such a talent was extinguished and there wouldn't be any more. The Pastorius boys are a killer rhythm section.

That's a tiny Gretsch kick drum ... is that a 16 or 18"?

Everybody has been talking about Felix, since he's the bass playing son. I'll have to give them a good listen soon.

Abe, you get to go see some great stuff. Wish I was in the locations to do that. That bass style is so much in the family mould. Great drumming too. A lovely pushing/trucking feel that dances over& around the bass. Wonderful stuff, & talent for sure.

( this, with Bendy's brother sitting in on bass )

@ Pol, he plays a 18"kick. Interesting thing about him also was that I have never seen anybody spend more time and care in setting up the kit just 'so'. He is incredibly meticulous about positioning and angles. This despite not having a lot of time to changeover after the opening act.

Yes both Felix and Julius are ridiculously talented. Genes are a powerful thang, it seems..

@Andy- Ya, I've been on a bit of a binge lately with the gigs..these boy are great. They opened up with a crazy take on Cissy Strut.. then double timed it and took it to some insane places. Felix is a great bass player too, but one senses the weight of the legacy on his shoulders.

@ Bo- They are not headliners yet, but will be soon, I think. The music is there. The reputation is on its way : ) Definitely worth a listen...
