Welcome to the site Dave. I'm sure you'll love it.

I can't help but wonder if the one who referred you was our very own Nutha Jason. I'm sure if it was, he would be glad to hear it.

Anyway, welcome.

real name? Ed Wiget

age? 36

how long been playing? 31 years

origin of user name? old band nickname, haunts me to this day, stands for the sl*t puppy

top 5 drummers? dont really have 5 tops, I have learned something from everybody - from the most basic to the most advanced. Right now I have been watching a lot of Tower of Power stuff.

make of drumkit? I have 13 vintage kits plus an electronic kit and a newer kit I use for live playing. My current live kit is a Sonor S Class 6 piece on an older pearl rack, my practice kit is a Yamaha DTXpress III with 2 add-on additional cymbals and 1 add-on tom so it more closely matches my live kit. My favorite kit is a vintage 70's Ludwig Vistalight all original concert series toms - mounted toms 6, 8, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16", 18 FT, Double Bass, matching snare all in red with orignal u-mount hardware and stands.

make of cymbal? I use primarily Sabian 16, 17, 18 AA Rock Crash, Sabian 22 HH Powerbell Ride, Sabian AAX 18 China, Sabian 14 rock sizzle hats with sizzles removed.

where do you practice? Home in bedroom + band practice space

are you in a band/s? yes

covers or originals? have been in both, currently doing originals only

what style of music? metal, goth, death, emo

favourite take out food? chinese

country? US

one really odd fact about yourself? Playing drums keeps me sane and from being a cereal killer (notice the c and not s)

how did you start drumming? I had an uncle who played and I started at about age 3, got my first set when I was 5, took about 8 years of marching, jazz, and concert bands in school, started gigging at age 17

Default Introduction

Hi Guys,

I just wanted to introduce myself and say thanks to all of the knowledgeable and frequent posters on this site. I love the tone of cooperation and helpfullness.

I've been playing bass intensely since 99 with a stint on drums for about 3 years in the early 80s. It's a long story, but I've decided, at the age of 44, to re-dedicate myself to drums. I've been playing again for about 7 months and seem to be gaining fast.

I've been using my buddy's DDrum 4 kit and liking it for the most part, but I've got the serious Jones for REAL drums. I played an acoustic kit for the first time in 24 years at Guitar center about a month ago....it's been a blur of Sonor catalogs and web sites since then!!!

I just added a set of 14" New Beat HH to the DDrum kit and gave it a big jump in useability. I was getting sloppy with the timing of my HH closes. Real cymbals sure brought that into sharp focus in a hurry.

I've got Stick Control, Sycopation, and The New Breed. Whooooohoo!!

I learned using match grip and recently switched to traditional. That's coming quickly as well. I like the feel it gives me on snare accents during grooves.

The cool thing about this is that as a Bassist, I was always frustrated with drummers. I was so tempted to kick them off the kit and show them how to play it the way I felt it!!! I've finally succumbed to the temptation. I couldn't train them, so I joined them!

Coming from a bass perspective really helps my groove as well.

But, I run on....Thanks for all the great info.

Bill

Hey im ryan i have been playing for about 6 years i play every thing like rock, jazz, shuffle, swing and bossa nova, but i really like progressive rock and thats what one of my bands play.
my kit is just a crappy power beat, but believe it or not it sounds pretty good, i even had a guy come up to me once and say that my $50 power beat snare sounded better than his $600 pearl maple free floater, but i have spent a lot of money on it and now it is worth over $2,200au. i am looking at selling it bit by bit or if some one wants the whole kit i will sell it for $1,500au, and buy a Tama.
The kit is a standard 5 piece
All Dixon double braced heavy duty stands
10" sabian pro sonix splash
12" paiste 502 splash
16" paiste 402 crash
16" paiste 302 crash
16" headliner crash
16" schallock crash
20" schallock ride
20" sabian pro sonix ride
14" schallock hats
14" headliner hats (the headliners come with the kit when i bought it)
DXP double kick pedals
All remo heads
Pearl clamp and arm
2 DXP clamps
DXP boom arm
DXP boom stand double braced

how did you start drumming? I nagged my parents for seven years, ever since the day in fifth grade when the music teacher showed us all the instruments we could possibly play in band... I was awestruck by the sounds of the two timpani they rolled in for us, and ever since that day it was, "Mom, I must play the drums" sure it took those seven years, but it was worth the wait.

Hello everyone,

I have been drumming using single snare work for about 1-2 years and then moved to a kit after that and have been doing that for 3-4 years now. I am now 14, I began when I was 9-10 years old being personally trained. I recently moved away to another state and haven't played the drums in a few months. I don't have a lot of space right now to set-up my kit, but I am looking forward to. Last stuff I did was some advanced swing beats in "The Art of Bop Drumming" by John Riley.

Hopefully signing up I will learn a lot more and soon to get back into drumming.
