Hi Everyone,
Been reading on this forum for quite some time and finally decided to register...
If I'm not working or doing sport, I'm drumming. I guess I don't really have the time to post alot. Most of the time I spend on here is at work (while having a break)
Anyways, it's cool to be here. I'm sure I'll enjoy my stay ;-)

had said hi in the general discussion.. but having got used to the layout of this forum.. i see it really belongs here.. so... hello :)

Im David, from the Edinburgh area. been playing drums since i was 11, but stopped playing in my late teens and hadnt touched a kit for about 10 years.

PIcked up yesterday, a gorgeous Mapex M-Birch kit, and i'm in the process of getting some Zildjian Avedis mastersound hats, and a custom A 17" crash.

Will be sure to pop some pics up when its all in place.

Now its time to practice and learn how to play properly again!!

Real name: Joe Briery

Age: 39

Years playing: 27

Where I grew up: Milpitas, CA

Styles/Genre of music I play: Rock, Funk, Jazz, Swing, R&B, Blues, Pop, and Metal

What got me into Drumming: I was on vacation with my parents one year when I was 12, I was bored....so I grabbed a toothbrush and a comb, and started playing along to what my parents were listening to on my sleeping bag. My uncle was a Music teacher, so when we used to go visit my grandparents, my uncle lived 10 min away, I would play my uncle's Ludwig he had, and my cousin got on his guitar, and played till we couldn't play anymore. I had a natural love for the drums, so it just meshed really well for me.

age? 36
how long been playing? Just started
origin of user name? I am an old lady luddite
top 5 drummers? Joe Morello, Joey Baron, Stanton Moore, Topper Headon, Steve Shelley
where do you practice? On a practice pad for now; I am in an apartment building so I will only be able to get an electronic kit…waiting to see which one is the best. Also, my friend acquired a drum kit and she has a house, so there will be many trips to her basement.
are you in a band/s? The friend mentioned in the question above will probably start something…
covers or originals? I will just be happy to learn basic rhythms for now!
what style of music? Jazz, Soul, Funk, Punk, Rock…mixed bag, really
favourite take out food? sushi
country? Canada
one really odd fact about yourself? I am a jack of all (and perhaps a master of none!); I am a visual artist for drawing, printmaking and also trained in goldsmithing. Also, I am a vinyl record junkie...
how did you start drumming? I was told I was not allowed to play in grade school because of my gender and was always super jealous of the guys who were playing drums. Although I was a band geek and vocal geek, after high school, I gave up music completely. A pal of mine at work wants to get into music and I was thinking of taking up guitar. But when we went to the music shop at lunch I wandered up to the drum section instead. I thought now would be the perfect time to learn this! Even if I am absolutely dreadful, I think it would be fun!

I was in the Navy for 5 years where I traveled throughout the Carribean, Mediterranean coast, the UK and a little bit of Scandanavia. I once played a gig in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. I like the Food Network, Gordon Ramsay and just about everything with Kevin Smith's name on it. Someday I hope to put together a band that can do ANYTHING...kind of like Zappa did.
