Default Re: Introduce Yourself

sup fellow drummers! just joined the forum and thought i'd introduce myself.

real name: Joseph

age: 17

how long have you been playing: about 5/6 years now. took lessons about 4 years ago for about 2 months i'm still learning on my own though lol.

origin of username (Joecool1010): "Joecool" came from an hold hoodie my dad got me for Christmas when i was about 7 or 8. it had a picture of Snoopy playing basketball and looking all pimped out with the name Joecool written on it. "1010" is my birthday October 10.

top 5 drummers: wow...let's see now...Definetly John Bohnam, Ringo Starr, Chad Smith, The Rev and Thomas Lang...there's a lot more that i like but those are my top 5 lol!

make of drum kit: TAMA BABY!!!!

make of cymbals: Zildjian

where do you practice: my basement, my cousin's basement, school music room and the local music centre whenever i go lol.

are you in a band/s: i'm currently in 2 bands wit some friends from my school (The Gnomads and SKITCH) this past October i played a gig with my uncles at my cousin's 18th birthday bash!

covers or originals:

The Gnomads (i'm the youngest member) - we mainly do covers of Van Halen, Nirvana, Zeppelin but we're starting to write our own stuff now. styles we play can range from rock to funk to reggae to jazz all the way to metal.

SKITCH (i'm the oldest member) - my recent band formed about 2 months ago and we mainly do our own music. we actually completed writing 2 songs 3 weeks after we formed and now we've got a lot of new stuff and hoping to start recording some tracks. styles we play are mainly rock, punk and ska with a little bit of funk.

what style of music: rock, punk, funk, reggae, ska, a little bit of jazz...to honest i like a variety of music and i also enjoy playing different styles of music :)

favourite take out food: chinese food lol

country: Canada

one really odd fact about yourself: um...i was once part of an Air Cadet Marching Band a the cymbalist and i inverted both cymbals. they were lucky to have been fixed, i was told it was so difficult at once point our instructor tried putting a part of the cymbal underneath one of the front tires of his car while he stepped on the other half and it still didn't bend back...is that good enough? lol

how did you start drumming: well as a toddler and a young kid i would always play on my uncles kit whenever we went to visit. somehow i got tied to the drums, however it wasn't until i was 12 that i got my first Peavey kit and started with that. it's funny too cuz when i started playing drums all my classmates wanted to start bands and have me as their drummer ahaha.

Default REFLECTING MY TIME AS A MUSICIAN

hi- my name is matthias rumpf, born 1959 in Dortmund /Germany.
first i got classical training on snare drum, when i was about 16. i had a good teacher
at that time. he was solo-tympanist in the symphonic orchestra of dortmund.

later i studied jazz in cologne. leader was jiggs whigham, a trombone player and
(a wonderful) teacher from ohio / usa.

all those years i worked a whole lot on snaredrum and drum set. and i also played a
whole lot in all kinds of bands, from dance-music to jazz or rock.

i am still into working and learning. i collected pretty much stuff, that i wrote for snare drum
and drum set. now i will bring out a drum book, first in a small number of exemplars,
later, i hope to find a professional firm, printing and selling musical books.

the same procedure will follow, in showing my CD with drummusic, entiteled
"under construction", a cd with only drums on it, just 3 microfons, all live played.

i am happy, introducing myself to DRUMMERWORLD now.

keep the faith

Real name: Michael

Age: 26

How long been playing: Started playing when I was 10 years old and played for 9 years. Then I stopped for 6 years (in University and living in places that aren't "drum friendly"). Started playing again about 1.5 years ago.

Origin of user name: My band gave it to me. I thought it was a great stage-name.

Top 5 drummers: Carter Beauford, Dave Weckl, Steve Gadd, Vinnie Colaiuta, Travis Barker, Gene Krupa. Okay, that's 6 drummers - you caught me.

Make of drumkit: Yamaha Birch Custom Absolute w/ Vintage Natural finish.

Make of cymbal: Always been a Zildjian guy (A's), but I just bought my kit used and it came outfitted with all Sabian cymbals (HH, and HHX Evolution).

Where do you practice: Jam space is my lead-singer's house

Are you in a band: Yes - Clifford Fastco

Covers or originals: Originals. We play the odd cover here and there just for fun.

What style of music: Rock/Alternative/Progressive/Punk/Acoustic

Favourite take out food: Quiznos

Country: Canada

One really odd fact about yourself: Usually, you have a house to put your kit in. I on the other hand, have a kit and now I need to buy a house for it.

How did you start drumming: My dad's a drummer and I used to play his drums with wooden spoons when I was a little kid. In 5th grade Music Class, we had to pick instruments - I didn't want to play anything that I had to breathe into and I thought drums were the coolest thing to play (still do). When I saw them in the back of the room, it was game over.

One really odd fact about yourself: See below (the one about my first drumkit).

How did you start drumming: I was drumming on everything since bein a little kid. Due to the place my parents and I liced in, I couldn't have a drum kit, so I learned the trumpet instead. When my parents finally built a house, I got my first drumkit (Tama Swingstar) - and I still play it as a secondary kit...
