two books for jazz

hey guys, ive been getting interested in jazz drumming and ive just bought two books to get me started for it, ive just bought ron spagnardi's progressive independence for the jazz drummer and the chapin book, when i've looked through these books they looked very similar and made me not sure on which to start from, can i have your opinion ?

Chapin wins.

When you've done it, burn both books and get outdoors.

By, "the Chapin book," you mean Advanced Techniques for the Modern Drummer, right? Jazz requires a different kind of limb coordination than rock does, and this book will give you a feel for how to play in that style. Even though it was first published in the late
40's, it's still a valid learning tool today.

Why buy two books you think look the same? (they're not, but I'm just curious on the thought process)
