Default Want to incorporate electronics into my kit, but not electronic drums... HELP!

So here's the deal... I would like to start incorporating some electronics into my setup, I sometime see pics of indie drummers with a table of effects next to them and I wonder what they are doing, but I cant find any good videos of them using the stuff...

What I really want to do is be able to play and trigger effects, but either load my own samples in or be able to play long drones over things I am working with.

How do other people do this, what sounds do they use or create?

Go any interesting YOUTUBE videos?

I looked at the mandala which is amazing, but I don't have the laptop for it and the one with the brain is not as customizable and its $1K...

Basically does anyone have anymore videos like this one...

or perhaps ideas about this stuff? I like this sampling pad a lot...

I used to have a Roland spds. Great piece of kit! I also hooked it up with a V-drum bass pad. I used to run drones and odd effects off of it. If you do decide to get one... wipe all the factory sounds off and start afresh. Unless of course there's something you want to keep. I personally kept the 808 sounds which was the only sounds I found useful.
Fortunately I know a few studio engineers who got me whatever sounds I wanted but just go web hunting. It can be quite difficult looping seamless drones without clipping but with time can be done.
Wish I still had one to be honest but the band I used it for no longer exists and I was a bit skint at the time....
Enjoy!

I also use a Roland SPD-S, and vote for it as well. I picked mine up used, for $350.
