Default Remo Vintage Emperor heads

Oh hey internet.

I've got a 6 ply gretsch maple, and I'm using evans G plus batter, and the stock gretsch resonant. I wanted the best of both worlds instead of going coated versus clear with the G plus heads, but these heads are very VERY ringy on maple drums. I'm looking for a more dead, punchy sound.

I've been doing research, asking around the studio, and multiple times I've gotten the suggestion, 'Remo Vintage Emperor'. What are your opinions on these heads? Also, what's a good reso combo? I tune in mid-low ranges.

I'm a shitty tuner, I'll admit it, takes me 30 mins to do a drum well. I'm extremely impatient with it. I know I'll get asked, so: I play a lot of indie, acoustic, jazz, folk, funk.

Please, I've tried E-rings, I've tried moongels. I'm looking for heads here.

I tried the Vintage emporer (with clear ambassador reso) a few months ago on my Yamaha MCAs and love them...especially the 16" floor tom. I would say they are similar to regular coated emporers with a little deeper tone. Highly recommend them.

Thanks Doug! Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to try regular emperors. Are they pretty deadening, or ringy?

Coated Emperors are warm and focused enough, I'm sure the Vintage ones are a hint more so
