I'm gonna tell the truth, Buddy Rich was the guy who pulled me into drumming, but Rabb is the guy who's keeping me here, he's just so intensely hardcore, and he's got enough groove to fill a dozen drummers. If some guy out there has the chops to play Aphex Twin's beats, it's probably Rabb. 100% my favorite drummer.

Uh..

Uhm...

"flim" by aphex twin, Dave King (The bad plus) does an excellent version, I absolutely love the floor tom sound in it btw.

Rabb's drumming is very slick, full of cool little intircasies which added together making for massively entertaining drumming. great drummer.

Default Johnny Rabb ...

... blew the roof off Donn Bennett's Drum Studio the other night.
Hoo Boy ... now I know what all the excitement's about. I wish I could've managed a lesson with him, because I saw a whole lot of stuff that looked do-able, but turned out otherwise when I attempted! I have almost managed the 'both-ends-of-the-sticks-on-the-high-hats' once or twice. His tiny-but-thundering kit was brilliant ... from sitting to standing kit in about 30 seconds.
But, I was totally distracted by the guitarist he had with him ... Paul Allen. Guy is amazing. Puts his bass on a stand, his guitar around his neck, and proceeds to play them both at the same time. Just phenomenal. And ... he plays drums too! The highlight of the evening was when Paul grabbed a snare and some sticks, and they went into a choreographed drum duet. Besides foot-stomping beats, there was synchronized dancing, juggling, stick tossing ... and just a whole lot of fun.
You can count on Donn Bennett to bring in the best of the lot, and these guys didn't disappoint.
I still can't do a double roll, though.

Default Johnny Rabb

He is my favorite drummer right now.I don't see him on this list of drummers. For shame.lol.Seriously though, some people might knock him for his use of one hand rolls but it never gets old for me.That along with his pioneering use of all sorts of gadgets like "drumbals" sets him apart. He is a truly inspirational player who is constantly pushing the limits.

He put on a great V-drum clinic down here in AL; fantastic playing and a heck of a friendly guy to boot. Got to see him again at NAMM this year, and even though Thomas L cast a pretty big shadow from the 'V-stage,' Johnny was as inspiring as ever.
very cool drummer!

Default JOHNNY RABB debut in Moscow, Russia

Hi guys,

Check out photos from latest Johnny Rabb debut concert in Moscow, Russia.

http://whatdrum.com/networkinghub/bl...blogentry_id=2

It was absolutely awesome only two musicians Clay Parnell (bass) and Johnny Rabb, who played just a couple of snares, hi-hat, splash, crash, ride, bass drum and Roland SPD-20 that's it, no tom-tom and floor-tom nevertheless due to his amazing technique it was so groovy.
