Nice setup man, looks really clean!

I'd be interested to know how the VLT/X Shells affects the tone of your toms. The depths are obviously quite shallow, does the different ply construction give them more resonance, or just lower the fundamental pitch?

How can you hit that china? It's pretty high!

Anyways, I love the kit!

Zeppelin 92: Let me qualify this response by saying that this is the second of two DW kits that I currently own. This one was made in September 08 and the other in 2003. My other set is relatively similar in size and sizes but with short stack toms, 5 X 10 Tom, 6 X 12 Tom, 12 X 14 Floor Tom, 18 X 20 Bass Drum, and 8 X 20 Woofer. As for the VLT and X-Shell technology making any significant difference in the tone, resonance or pitch of these drums as compared to their regular Collector’s Series brethren, let me emphatically say that I personally can discern no difference whatsoever. I believe those to be an excellent marketing ploy on behalf of DW. That being said, I am very happy with these drums and have been gigging them regularly since they arrived.

Solaris: Oddly, enough I play in a classic metal cover band (Priest, Maiden, Metallica, Pantera, etc) and have found these sizes to be very effective for that purpose. I discovered many years ago that the smaller drums cut better through the mix than their larger counterparts, especially when mic’ed. Not to mention that their smaller size makes them much easier to schlep around. I can fit the whole kit, including rack and cymbals in the back of my car.

joshisaces: My china is positioned below my right crash and above my X-hat so I don't quite understand the question. This may just be a matter of perspective, as this whole kit is fairly small and I tower over all of the cymbals. For a popular point of reference, this kit is similar in size and set up to Justin Foley's (Killswitch Engage), with one additional tom.

Well, in my opinion that is kind of high for a china to hit it right on the flange.

To be fair, it's not a big set of shells so maybe that's what's confusing you here.

Doesn't Justin Foley have 2 floor toms as well?

The Groceryman: The "Red Moongel" is really just some pink sticky thing made by Pro-mark with the same intended purpose as moongels. I found them to be much better than Moongel as they are only sticky on one-side. I can't remember their exact name and I believe they stopped making them as I can't even find them on their Website. Anyone?

I apologize for the inaccuracies in my reply regarding my china placement, the Justin Foley reference was just to illustrate the rather dimniutive size of the kit as compared to the player. Bottomline: It's comfortable and practical for me in it's current position.

My other kit is posted in the "Show of your DW Kit" thread:

TWO OF EM'.......!!!!
You are my new hero. I wouldn't know which one to play. I love the rack on the first kit but I also love the look without the rack on the second kit. Very nice setups.

Here's my TD-20+, which is set-up exactly like my real kit. I built a much smaller rack for it, out of old Gibraltar and Tama rack pieces.
