I have two monster.
Each is a very special kit in its own right.
First up is the one of 25, Five Star Kits.
Mine was played by Thomas Lang and Steve Smith!
I put my Zebrawood stave on the Sonor Five Star...nice matching grain and gold hardware.
I call the whole thing Tribal Weapon, and it has 10 pieces.





















I have the Sonor Signatures that was the personal kit of the road drummer for the Monkees!
Its now with the Dunnett Titanium and the Spirit of 2002 and call the whole thing Heavy Metal
It has a red wrap Phonic Plus floor tom I will put Bubinga Veneer inside and out and that will make it look better. The rest are all Signature Heavy shells...which just got larger as you will see below. Its my birthday and I got a present. A 18" floor tom. The two year wait is over!











It is now a 11 piece Signature kit, with a 18x18 ft riding on a gong drum position....LOVE IT.


I gave the 3003 SE 12 piece to my son. I kept the Starman Reso from this kit for my Signature kit.

The only possible way I could choose between those two sonor kits (sig bubinga or ebony) would have to come down to which I liked the sound of better.

Both represent the best of drum making...and both have unique and amazing appearances.

The newer ebony is more vibrant, thanks to the gold and smaller lugs, but I grew up pining for those signatures back in the day and they are like a "heritage" high end kit.

Either that, or flip a coin.

Mine was more appropriate, because jelly belly makes jelly beans, the name of the kit. Skittles just have a lot of colors, but they are candies, not jelly beans.

I would really love to see a dwarf monster kit. 18 and 16 bass, 6,8, 10,12, 13, 14 and 15 toms, 12 or 13 inch snare. 10 pieces, none bigger than 18 inches. The trend now is to huge drums, even in four-piecers, and it would be cool to see a monster kit with small drums.

PEOPLE! As beautiful as Derek's kit is, I don't need to see the same 7 pictures of it posted 5 TIMES on the same page! When you quote picture posts, how about removing the pics from it? Or at least removing all but the first pic?

And it's 2009, and people STILL haven't figured out how to resize photos??? How about making them a reasonable size so they don't take so long to load, and so people don't have to scroll left and right, up and down to see the full pics? Yes, I am looking at the top of this page.

A church??? I guess it's a very contemporary church then for a kit so big. Most church kits I've seen are 4-5 pieces with 3-5 cymbals.

these are my two combined kits. Specs are 24x16, 18x16, 12x8, 13x9,14x14,15x13,16x16, 14x6 maple, and 14x6 edge snares.

Cymbals are 21"wil Calhoun, 14" Manhattan hats, 14" el sabor hats, 18" fast china, 18" el Sabor, 18" hhxtreme, 18" legacy, 18" hh medium, 18"aaxplosion crashes.

I set this up just after Christmas, and took it down shortly after. I am not a big kit kat. This was just an excercise in 80's wankery.

Pearl Masters MCX in Black Sparkle Fade lacquer.

8", 10", 12", 14", 16", 22" kick and a 14" snare. I might add a Pearl Q-Popper soon.

not lame at all dude. really freakin sweet actually! is it a sonor? like your throne aswell. its a good idea. bet it helps you get around the kit easily too.

Really this was just a bit of fun :) I've taken out the 13 and the left side 16" floor and i'll probably stick some smaller drums left side of the 12" rack tom (which will have our favourite fabric on them!) as these are easier to mount without being ridiculous. I also have to get a beater for the 22 on the left. That or make it into a gong drum.
