Default I Need this Drum - HELP!!!!!

Ladies and drummers,

I have a pearl Masters Custom (MMX?) kit circa 1998 in Natural wood finish. It's a great kit which has in fact improved with age and I want to hold on to it for various reasons - sound, errr sound and i'm kind of attached to it sentimentally too...

Anyway, I have an issue with toms when purchased the kit I only got 10, 12 and 14 inch toms (all hanging) and I have desperately been looking for a 16 inch floor tom for the set up pretty much ever since.

Quote from Pearl is just ridiculous.... ebay not yet... so has anyone got one, know of one any leads ANYTHING would be a help.

cheers,
e

If I had the damn drum to take a picture of I wouldn't be asking this question now would I? :-)

OK fair point though - here a couple a not great pictures of the 12" for perhaps colour/fittings reference.

thanks then.

You could build one or have one built.

Thanks for the replies.

Quote from Pearl was a while ago but somewhere in the region of £480 sterling. I think having one made might be a similar figure.

I also thought about buying a different colour and getting a re finish but no one i've spoken to seems to know a safe and successful method of doing this. This Pearl series I think (apart from sparkle editions) all have the grain of the wood visible through the finish so the coloured lacquer is very very thin and any attempts at removal tend to start also removing wood... so i'm told!

Could just have multi coloured kit, i suppose.

If you are going to spend the money take the time to find one that matches your kit instead of trying to re-finish a drum and risk messing that finish up!

Yeah, don't pay that ridiculous price from Pearl. That's nearly half of what it costs to buy a new 4 piece masters.

I would suggest trying ebay and craigslist again. If that doesn't work have you considered using a vision floor tom since its cheaper?

Or just say to them you're not paying any more than 200 pounds for a new floor tom. For a discontinued drum I'd say thats more than a fair price.

Shit.. I hate Pearl, always over charging. Probably because of its popularity but they're some of the most expensive asian made drums. I would have bought a kit, but the quality wasn't up to the price asking. If a 5 piece masterworks kit was only $1500 then I would have.
