Default Making my own oak stave snare

Hello everybody,

I was thinking when my dad and I chopped down an oak tree a few weeks ago if it would be possible to make my own stave shell snare.

If we are chopping down a tree next year again, can I (being a noob) make my own snare out of some pieces of wood? Is it hard to do and what tools do I need? And how can I make the bearing edges?

Bram.

It is not hard if you are a skilled carpenter or wood worker. Also the lumber needs to be aged to some degree so cutting down a tree and making a drum will take some time. Maybe buy an already made shell and doing the work with your dad may be a good place to start. Go to www.ghostnote.com to check out some instruction and ideas.

you did cut down the tree this year, is it still around? Cut it in pieces and take them to somewhere warm and dry, on a farm such a place must not be hard to find :-). Let it age (I don't know how old it must be..) but then you already have your wood..

Good luck with the project..

I can make a solid shell too...
But then I'll have to wait til next year, because the tree is already in small pieces.
Or i'm going to buy a snare when I have money :p
