Default Birch vs. Maple Snare

I have a choice between a birch snare or a maple snare in 4x14 size. I've played tons of maple snares, but not too many birch snares. I know birch has a cleaner sound than maple, but where does birch stand in terms of sensitivity and articulate sounds?

Thanks!

Mr. Steve Gadd's Yamaha snare is birch. I'd say sensitivity and articulation are top notch, letting his work speak for itself.

I love this snare!

I thought he had maple, birch, and brass versions of his sig. snare? (Or is it birch, brass, and steel...?) Does Yamaha not make all 3 anymore?

I could have sworn he used a brass model at one point. The current model is birch as pictured.

I don't know about maple...???

I've seen the brass one before- repair job at the shop I worked at a few years ago. I could swear I remember Yamaha offering a SG in 3 different shell types...
