Anyhow, let's see 'em boys and girls! I'll start:

a little more recent..

DAMN I love that set...............I had that exact gong, traded it to my bro for some cymbals, now I have the 28" chau gong.

I really like the +1 very classy.

Kick is 20" deep x26 (diam)....it's so awesome, I just love that drum size (I have another one in Sable Black with long lugs too...pic below).

The china's are actually pretty close to me, and kinda boomed in.
I can play them from behind too for things like suspended rolls--they sound pretty cool that way.
They are (custom ordered size) 21" AAX chinas w/rivets.

Boomed in kinda like this, but not as much these days...but I won't rule out changing back to boomed like this sometime.
They are also quite a bit lower now.

The china's in this pic were pretty high, and I raised my hands a little to roll on the bottom from the back.

The hat side one I can raise my hand and play patterns on if I want, it's pretty close, but I can still raise my arm higher, and not hit it (since it's moved back a bit) if I want to get all Tommy Aldridge about it.

Yeah, that gong is cool....I like using it, the band likes it, and people don't know what to say when you set it up at a show, & that's fun too!
People don't really know what to make of the 2 china's either, so it's always fun to set the kit up.

Thanks for the nice words!

I was noticing the same thing on the "Show off your Ludiwig's thread"! You have a great looking kit. I also have a 9x13 that I use instead of the 8x12 (shown in the pic) when I play rock gigs (I play either one up/two down or one up/one down, never do I use two rack toms). I also have the larger classic lugs on all of the drums except the 8x12, which has the mini-classic lugs. The folks at Ontario Music said he older versions of the classic maples had smaller lugs on all shells 8x12 or smaller...so that overall symmetry was maintained. I think it worked out pretty well with my kit.

I ordered a matching 6.5 x 14 LS403 last Friday. Hope it comes soon.

I have to say I really like the BOP wrap on your kit. I also liked the new Sunset Diamond Pearl and Indigo Sparkle wraps that came out last year, but in the end, I just had to have WMP; the only finish I've ever owned in a drum kit! With all of the great wraps, I don't think I'd ever want a laquer or natural finish.

How do you tune yours? I put the snare at middle C and then tune down a 1/3 on each of the toms.

So do people who play 1 up 2 down generally have nearly-if-not-totally flat toms?

For most of the times, yes. Might be better control, comfort, hard hitting.

it's because the people who use such a setup tend to be pretty hard-hitters and it just helps with the longevity of the heads.

Those drums are 24x16, 12x8, 14x14, 16x16, and the 14x6" edge snare.

Since my last posts I have made a few changes to my drum room. I am back down to my fave four and my fave four cymbals.

24x16, 13x9, 16x16,and the 14x6 edge snare. 20" manhattan ride, 14" dark hats, 16" thin, and 17" hhxtreme crashes.

I always apreciate your opinions and advice.

I love the rail mounts too. I get some flack for mounting the tom bracket directly to the shells, but if it was good enough for Ludwig, Gretsch, Rogers, Slingerland etc, then it's good enough for me.

I think that my bout of big kit silliness has come to it's end. From now on it's strictly four by four for me.

RIGHT ON MAN!!!
Flack schmack, go play your own drums.

Really, RIMS are cool, but the way shells are made now, and how sturdy they are, a mount on the drum, like a L-arm style, or even Yamaha's older style mounts isn't any problem IMO.

Yamaha's toms never had any problem resonating fully with the mount they had before the YESS system.

DW's L-arm is on the big size too (& awesomely sturdy), and it's no problem.

Maybe on a really thin shell, you might be better off without a mount directly on he drum, but on 'average' thickness shells, no problem.

Even with a RIMS, if you tune the drum up perfectly holding it, once you put it on the L-arm (or whatever holds it up), the sound changes a little.

I'd have a mount on my tom if I didn't change how I set stuff up all the time and just stick with one way...

4&4 is awesome...but I can't give up my left side ft.....I could give up a couple crashes and just use hat, ride and one (or no) crash, but I love that hat side ft....

24" bass drums are great too.
I'm even toying with getting a 24 again for some things...but it will be at least 20" deep of course...even though my old Ludwig (3ply w/re-ring) 14x24 is still fun to play :-)

Have a great time in that fun looking drum room you have Barry!!!
