Dom is a very underated Drummer for sure and one of my favourites along with Gavin Harrison.

There's a technical error with it at the mo but if you go to; http://www.musedrums.co.uk and go to Media there are some stripped down Muse tracks from the Absolution and Black Holes sessions;
- Stockholm Syndrome (Drums, Keys and Vocal)
- Hysteria (Drums only)
- Butterflies and Hurricanes (Drums only)
- Starlight (Drums and Bass)
- Knight's of Cydonia (Drums, Vocal and Synth)

Stockholm Syndrome suprised me as there's parts where it sounds like quick doubles on the Kick but it in fact there's Ghost notes on the Snare that give it that impression. Butterflies is an interesting listen, the main recurring fill he does through out the song is alot different to what I thought it was and also with all the songs you see how much he uses quick Kick strokes in his fills, really creative and orginal stuff.

Hope everyone's well,

Kev

I really like Dom's simple yet effective approach. And some of his fills are just awesome! My favourite muse song has got to be map of the problematique; its so powerful. Does anyone know what drums he used for the origin of symmetry album?

Dominic is great, I think he really plays solid, groovy parts for every muse song. I usually like drummers who will improvise more often, but I still think that Dominic plays some really choice stuff. I especially like the drums on assassin, unnatural selection, hysteria, sunburn, knights of cydonia, bliss, new born, micro cuts, plenty of other songs. I especially like on hysteria about halfway through the guitar solo when it goes from the verse chord changes to the chorus chord changes. In one bar there's a drum fill where the drums accent every 3rd 16th note and the guitar accents every 4th 16th note creating this real nice hemiola. Also the odd number of bars in the breakdown at the very end of the song is just perfect, especially the very last bar where the drum fill mimics the guitar and bass riff

One thing that he is fantastic at is maintaining eight notes on his single Iron Cobra without faltering. Admittedly, I've only been doing heel up for a lot over a year (the other nine were heel down :( ), but his control is very solid. Maintaining parts like the Stockholm Syndrome chorus and other parts where he does constant eights aren't exactly easy on the legs.

Dominic Howard was my first source of inspiration as a drummer, mainly for being left handed, but also in my favourite group.

Favourite tracks include Sunburn, Citizen Erased, Assasin and Sing for Absolution.
