Default LUDWIG 3 ply kit anyone?

Hey Guy's,

Think I'm gonna go for one of these older kits. Anyone got one they'd like to brag on???

Funny...I thought that I had the best Kit on the forum! Just kidding! I love the old ludwig's! If I wasn't hopelessly addicted to old Gretsch's I would have a 3 ply Ludwig or a Slingerland from the sixties. I have always been partial to old Rogers also. Go for It Stixxs! They don't make them like they used to!

Yeah they are ok, but I've got a 1UPer

Keystone badge silver sparkle in better condition with a Supra.

outside shot to glorify the sparkle

Best kit on the forum I guess.

Anyway if you have an opportunity to go for one of these, take it. I'd recommend searching specifically for keystone sets for value purposes in case you ever want to resell.

Okay, my kit bows down to yours. Mine's a "player's kit" for sure. Definitely keystone badges are the way to go, if you can find them in good condition. What are your thoughts about the white resocoat? Maybe I should start a thread...

EDIT: I did start a thread, so as to not hijack yet another one. White resocoat vs. clear maple interiors. Discuss here:

Gotta Love the Silver Sparkles!

That or a Natural Maple...But I'm guessing they go for a premium.

What's the attraction for the Keystone badges...other than older 60's era?

Keystone badges are older and more valuable. Ludwig stopped using them in 1969 and switched over to the pointy-cornered blue/olive badge (see my kit). I guess from a drummer's standpoint, I'm afraid that another drummer in the audience might think that my B/O badge kit is a 6-ply from the later 70s. Ooooh, THAT would be horrible...

If he did, he wouldn't know what he was talking about, so dont' worry! :)

I just started a 'project' that will take a while, but I'll keep you posted.....if it turns out what I see in my head, ..she's gonna be sweet!

Oh, man....this is truly drum porn! Old ludwigs!

There is a used 4 piece blue sparkle Ludwig kit advertised at my local Guitar Center I've been eye-balling for some time. It is going for $699.00. I believe it has a 20 inch kick, 8 x 12 and 9 x 13 toms, and a either a 14 x 14 inch or a 16 x 16 floor. I'm not sure of the badges or serial numbers. No snare. That's ok since I just got a '76 Ludwig Acrolite snare off of eBay for $61.00 including shipping. It's got some wear and grime, but that's half the fun - cleaning and fixing it up! But just out of the box, the very used Acrolite and heads sounded awsome! I could certainly tell the difference between my Pearl chrome snare and the Ludwig Acrolite.

Hey Stixxs,
Where are you located? I just saw a nice 12-16-22 gold-sparkle kit at WestCoast Drums. It was just dropped off today. Really nice shape, 60's Keystone badged. I snapped a few pics of it if you're interested.
