Default Help with Snare Sound

So i have a Dennis Chambers 14/6.5 snare. i dont really like it but its tough to sell without halving the price esp at the moment, I would prefer 5.5 depth snare to provide a quicker response.. so i am trying to tune high to get more response but its just sounding tinny and too deep if that makes sense

my ideal sound is something along the lines of a DW cravattio 5.5 like the A7X guy on almost easy or a Sonar (forget the series but its the one in the same price bracket that Sean Reinert uses). I am using an ambassador regular head ontop..i was wondering what head i could try to get a similar chunky sound (without sounding like Mike Portnoys early recordings..deep drum with pinstripes.

Default Re: Help with Snare Sound

You could try a Coated Controlled Sound or an Emporer or Emporer X coated.

A thicker batter head won't make your snares more responsive, so to speak, but it will give you a chunkier sound. Also I have noticed that since thinner heads resonate less you might want to try thicker bottom heads on your snare.

I got an inexpensive mahogany snare with 30 degreee round over edges to sound pretty good by using thicker heads.
