Get your custom Maple Snare drum

Hey guys.
I know there has to be at least one of you who will be interested here, so i'm gonna cut to the chase.

I've done a lot of personal research into the subject of building custom drums. I have found a great supplier and have built up a bit of knowledge.
By March I plan to have a custom company (Batterista Complete Percussion or BCP, if you care) and have at least two full drumsets built.
I'm going to do this essentially full-time and I have a lot of dedication to put into my work. I will settle for nothing less than perfection on each aspect of the drum. No half-assing here.

So i come to you guys asking for some help. You'll benefit quite a bit though.
I want to line up an order now before I really start things off. Just a simple snare drum, not a full kit.
I'll build you a completely custom maple snare drum. 100% Keller maple in your choice of ply count and size. I'm only going to do stains though, so no wraps. You can choose any color stain including mixes and fades.
It will be your choice on teh style of lugs and I can do offfset lugs at no extra charge. You can also decide between diecast, 2.3mm, and maple hoops. You can also choose between a throwoff or picollo style strainer. Unlesss you don't want it, I'll put on a 42 strand snare to give it some added crispiness.

I'm offering all of this to you for $350. Yes, a custom maple snare for only $350. It's not cheap because of quality, I'm just giving you the benefit of the fact that it will be the first drum I sell.
The materials cost me $300 and I only add $50 to cover the labor.

I'm not a dummy and I can assure 100% that the snare drum you recieve will be perfect and pristine with no blemishes or failure. If you do for whatever reason not like the drum, ill give your money back and even pay for you to ship it to me.
Cmon guys, dont pass up this oppurtunity to get a great snare drum for dirt cheap and help me get started out

Interesting. My son always wanted a 7 x 12 , 20 ply maple snare.I have always had interest in a 6 x 14 15 ply maple snare.I have a couple of questions though.

1) Who is cutting the bearing edges and what type of edges are they going to be?
2) If you are cutting the edges, have you ever done this before?
3) What kind of hoops, throwoffs, etc, can we choose from?
4) Are heads included?
5) Does ordering dies cast hoops versus 2.3 mm hoops change the price?

You need to go hang out at Ghostnote and see how many people are doing what you are talking about. Do a little market research, there are a lot of small custom shops out there.

I don't own a router and i don't wanna go ruining shells, so i'm purchasing them with precut 45* edges. (chamfer cut im pretty sure)
i can include heads and i'll even tune it up real nice.

Die cast hoops should actually cost less because that price estimate is for maple hoops. you can pick between a throwoff or picolo style strainer. theyre nice but you can get one made by Trick for 20 bucks more. Lugs are also your choice. I can give you some catalog info if you need it.

I do have an account on ghostnote and get some of my knowledge there
And i would love to make a model snare for you guys, but i need the money first and i'm flat broke.

I understand if you guys don't feel I cant do it, so post away cuz i can learn from your responses.

no, its not that we dont think you cant do it...

its that there are so many other custom companies out there...that have been established with amazing work out.

what would make us wanna buy a snare drum from someone that has no clue what he's doing...(no offense to you in anyway)

it takes a while..but, i guess your on the right track..

the price.

brand new $350 custom maple snares with offset lugs and maple hoops are hard to find.

my time isn't worth that much money and i have no employees to pay so i have a lot of room to play with on pricing

you know what, nevermind this thread. I only need about 50 dollars to have the money to buy a snare for myself, then i can show you guys some work before you go spending your money.that should help

ill update when i finally buy my materials. im gonna do a very sexy fade so i'm sure you'll be interested when you see the final

Give me one reason why I should send you $350.00 and really believe that I will ever receive a snare drum.
If you don't even own a router, what can you do for me what you call custom?
The things what you are planning to do I can do that myself.
Please don't believe you can come on here and offer some service that almost anybody can do themselves, and expect that we will fall over it and order away.
Yes it is Christmas, but we are not that gullable.

Two suggestions or questions. If you are flat broke now, what are you going to do between now and March to gain the funds to start a Custom drum company? You will need tools, for cutting different bearing edges at a minimum. I built my own snare from parts from AMDrumparts, and yes they cut the edges and drilled the shell since I bought all of my hardware from them. Secondly what are you going to do for me that I can't do myself? If by Custom you mean put on the finish, and screw on the hardware, I don't see you drawing much business. For your sake I hope I'm wrong.

my brother is going to "invest" so to speak, as soon as i can sell this first drum i build

im trying to get my uncle to ship me his router so i can do edges
as of right now, by custom i mean its more or less me purchasing the parts and shells and applying custom stain.
just because i cant cut BE yet means its not custom? hell if you wanna do the wood stain, buy all the hardware parts, and buy and drill the shells on your own, go ahead. it's your choice whether or not you buy one. it's more like a service. a $50 dollar charge for all of that work done for you isn't so bad, especially for a custom fade finish

honestly, jut let this thread die off. i just ordered a shell and some lugs today (christmas check) and i already have the wood stain. then when i pick up my next paycheck im gonna buy the strainer and hoops. when i build this drum, you guys will have reason to buy from me.

and im located in arlington, washington currently.

I admire your initiative in starting a new company but there are a gazillion Keller customizers out there using everything from acacia to zebrawood.

We're also a pretty jaded group here. We see top custom makers showing us stave, steambent and solid-shell drums all the time. Even ply makers here fabricate their own shells.

I wish you luck in what you're doing but if you want to develop a customer base here, you might want to build a few things and post pictures. Showing us lots of drum porn is the surest way to get people here interested. Have you ever even assembled and finished a drum? We need to see pictures of what you're capable of.

Unix finds a lot of business here and he started by posting lots of good drum porn and casually mentioning he made them. People started asking him about making drum sets - his work sold itself.
